Before you read on, please understand that I will be both respectful, and will avoid being either rude or unecessarily descriptive, but it is not for those who are squeemish. Though it will not contain any unecessary or descriptive details of any kind, I put that there just to cover my bases. That being said, here is my situation:

My girlfriend and I engaged in the act 3 weeks ago from this saturday. We used a condom as a preventative measure, and as always, we were careful. However, today she told me that, a week or less before her monthly visitor arrives, she has found spotting (I will not describe spotting, simply because it is unnecessary and I don't want to get locked... if you can help me, you know what spotting is already), and, simply for the fact that I feel I need to include all details, the color was brown. The second I found this out, I went looking online to find out what it means, and, as always, I found something that greatly disturbed me (whenever I look something up online, I find something that scares the crap out of me). I found that brown spotting after the monthly issue is a sign of just bacteria cleansing, but just before, can be an indicator of pregnancy. Obviously, now I am worried. I'm 19, and she's 18... I'm in college, and she's about to graduate high school. I could use some peace of mind.

So, should I be worried? obviously no one knows for sure, and I plan to have her take a pregnancy test tomorrow when I go home to see her, but until then, I could use any information that might help me get a good night's sleep. So, do you think she's pregnant?

If you used a condom, the odds are little to none. Spotting is supposed to occur 6 to 12 days after conception, so three weeks doesn't sound right. Anything's possible, I suppose. If she's very tired at all, that's a sign as well. Everyone's different, so it's no need to get worried, and it's better for her not to worry, either, so as not to have stress delay her period any longer.dreDREb13
okay, that makes me a feel a bit better... any other words of wisdom that might help me sleep tonight? BTW, she isn't worried at all, but I'm flipping out

I'll just be really disgusting here and not sugarcoat this. The first few days before a period for a girl can be brown blood. Everyone is different. Sometimes it comes out in a gob here or there, looks like poop. Some girls also get this on their last few days of their period. this is NORMAL. DO NOT WORRY. Spotting is normal, lots of people get it. What I think you're worried about is implantation bleeding, which to my knowledge usually comes out red, but of course that's not for sure. I doubt you should worry as long as you're sure your condom didn't break.

Because you used a condom, there is not a very big chance. If she is under a lot of stress, it can cause spotting, and even a premature period. Happens to me often. I do suggest the pregnancy test, just to verify that everything is fine, but just try to keep calm. She may also be fighting off some bacterial infection, and if the spotting continues, pregnant or not, then she should be seen by her dr. to get a pap done, along with some other test to make sure shes ok. Birth control pill may be suggested by the doc as well, which would maybe help control the spotting, and also create better peace of mind in the future. Thats if shes not anti-the pill, or you.

I'm pretty sure that shes fine. Me and my gf have been together for almost a year. She's on the pill and i use protection. She started using a new brand called Yaz on month. almost everytime we would engage in sexual activities she would spot and bleed. At first i thought this was a sign of pergnancy n the planting of the egg n ya. But turns out she stopped spotting when she stoppped yaz and got a new brand. So if shes on BC it could be that. Plus is she was pregnant, she'd be having morning sickness most likely

first of all, dude, uncalled for. Despite the fact that obviously it would be me, that is NOT necessary, and you are a complete ass for saying something like that. Second, haha, for those of you who really want updates, send me a PM, or I will take names of people who respond with wanting to know and I will PM you lol. Other than that, you guys have made me def feel better about this. I will still have her take a preg test, but for now I feel better, and I def will be able to sleep which is a good thing... what is NOT a good thing was that I was so stressed about this I neglected to write my 12 page paper due tomorrow... so yeah... I've got some work to do. Thanks for the help, please feel free to keep responding, as I never turn down more peace of mind, but let's keep it constructive, unlike the quoted post here, which is just plain mean.

I doubt she's pregnant.

Spotting is very common, and usually has nothing to do with pregnancy.

Envy me about what?

(I'll take a wild guess just in case) Because I am gay and I dont have the risk of impregnating someone?

Well yeah I didnt assume you were not simply for implying that. I mean by default as a heterosexual (not celibate I guess) you will face that risk just like I will probably face other risks. But thats not really relevant here.

Teenaged was right... not once did I complain about anything, nor did I gripe about how stupid it was. I don't regret doing it, and I took all the steps I could to be safe. This was a simple inquiry, trying to get some peace of mind until I go home and see her today, and then know for sure. Yes, I did take the risk, but no, that doesn't mean we deserve to get pregnant and have it permanently change and possibly destroy our futures.

He asked two specific questions:

Not your input on if what he did is right/wrong or if he should know better etc. At this point he doesnt need this and I am sure people are more aware of the risks of protected sex than you think; at least if you read the OP, the TC is aware of it. So you are pretty much stating something obvious. Why; aparently to pass some sort of judgement.

Well, actually, condoms are only what, 97% effective? So yes, the odds are with you, but I wouldn't call that slim to none. That's more like "unlikely". And that is only when the use of it goes well and there are no defects, breaks, etc.

So, the dice were rolled, and you have a good chance to not be a father. But keep in mind, every time you do sleep with her, pregnancy is something you risk. Just realize that. If you sleep with her 32 times, statistically you have let your boys slip through at least once.

Unless it's a brand name pregnancy test like clearblue or first response being sold for a dollar and isn't damaged or expired or something, then I wouldn't go that route for a 3-weeks-along thing. The earlier along you are the lower the levels of the pregnancy hormone, that's why there's tests marketed as "five/four days sooner", because they're apparently more sensitive to the hormone. I've watched experiments where males used the dollar store ones and they came out positive, and pregnant women used them and they came out negative. Sketchy stuff.

Those sentences have no indication of me ordering you what to do and what not to do. I cant demand something from you.

I can say "x shouldnt be posted" but that doesnt equate to "I demand that you dont post it (again in the future)".

Well after doing a bit of web surfing I found that most people said the dollar test were identical to the expensive test. I used to buy the good test for $10 at Riteaid and one day I saw the 99 cent one and they have both been good to me. They've always given me the result I've wanted... (-) lmao So I think someone is better off buying 2-3 dollar test than 1 $10 test.

Well after doing a bit of web surfing I found that most people said the dollar test were identical to the expensive test. I used to buy the good test for $10 at Riteaid and one day I saw the 99 cent one and they have both been good to me. They've always given me the result I've wanted... (-) lmao So I think someone is better off buying 2-3 dollar test than 1 $10 test.

haha, yeah ill probably have her just take a cheaper one, but if it comes up positive, or if it comes up neg and she is still late, then I'll have her take a more expensive one at the end of the week.

HURRAY! Quick update, but all is well, she and I are not going to be parents anytime soon, she informed me that she just received her monthly visitor! Thank you all for the kind words (those who gave kind words anyway), and for the heartfelt support. It felt really good to have you guys reassuring me. Furthermore, I don't think that this will be a problem again, since she is going to start taking the pill now, she just had to wait for her visitor first. So, once again thank you all, i am going to go do some backflips, and if you have learned ANYTHING from this, be sure that you are safe when you have sex lol.... because then you can avoid losing a night of sleep over a pregnancy scare!

well you know there are plenty of home pregnancy tests. just pick up 2 or 3 and have her try them. no need to get all worried just yet. if she is pregnant then it's up to you 2 to decide. but i doubt that she got that way if you had rubber on.
