It's kinda her own fault. If she didn't have the alcohol, and go to the area in the first place, none of it would have happened.
That's a ridiculous thing to say. You are basically saying she deserved it because she had some alcohol and went to somewhere that can sometimes be unsafe. No one deserves that. It's kinda her own fault. If she didn't have the alcohol, and go to the area in the first place, none of it would have happened.

WHATTA LOAD OF CRAP IS THIS???
Jesus, no one gives a damn?
If i was there, id call the police and throw rocks at them to distract them... seriously what the hell?
Just how perveted is the male population... damn!!!
What pisses me off the most is that no one did anything like its not a big deal.
Sersiously, lets just say that that girl was kinda.... yeah not so innocent, lets also say it was just one man or 50, would have made a diffirence?
What kinda Neglect is this?
people in the area should do something and the police should have acted immediately.
Do you have any idea what they do to rapists in jail?
Because she knew that she was going to get raped. Its like placing the blame on Iraqi civilians that die from a car bomb. Or they live in an unsafe area so its kinda their fault they died. You sir or ma (I could care less) are an idiot. It's kinda her own fault. If she didn't have the alcohol, and go to the area in the first place, none of it would have happened.

No one deserves that. I've just read this article (I vaguely knew the story before hand) and no where does it she was under the influence of alcohol. She was just outside the place where her homecoming was. She was gang raped by a group of 20 people. Please explain to me how anyone deserves that. It's kinda her own fault. If she didn't have the alcohol, and go to the area in the first place, none of it would have happened.

I have to agree with you. Humanity has gone to hell in a handbasket. Because they're idiots. This is probably even worse than things in the 80's or 90's.

Right, those rapists were just doing what they do, and if the girl didn't get intoxicated and go around this, none of it would have happened. Blaming the victim doesn't work. it doesn't matter if she was drunk, if she was in a certain area, if she was wearing certain clothing, etc. Doing that stuff is not her "asking for it". She's not at fault for the rape at all from what I read in the story. Sickening. It's kinda her own fault. If she didn't have the alcohol, and go to the area in the first place, none of it would have happened.

**** unbelievable. They did nothing and the girl was raped for more than two hours.
"As people announced over time that this was going on, more people came to see, and some actually participated," Lt. Mark Gagan of the Richmond Police Department told CNN.
WTF? :| They were like: "Hey what's going on here? Oh, gang rape, can we join? "

Whatever a girl or a woman was drinking or not, it does not, I repeat, does not give boys or men the right to rape a girl or a woman. It's still wrong, period.

Oh course rape is wrong. I simply stated that if she had not been there, the odds of it not happening would have been alot higher.how do you remember all those o's and O'sThat is what I think is wrong with humanityColin1192

Which reminds me of a girl i was dating back when i was 22. I just drove her home i did not try to take advantage of her. Seriously i dont get this, men drinking= beating up their wives, women drinking= getting raped. Why the world is so entitled to this?[QUOTE="garland51"][QUOTE="MasterBolt360"] If you were really interested in the story, you would read the second video on the left side, and know she was drinking.MasterBolt360

Exactly if MasterBolt360 above is correct then it means girls should not go to parties at all, to maximize the odds of not getting raped... but come on, not going to the parties?it seriously took you this long to lose faith in humanity? stories like this made me lose mine ages ago.

I never said she didn't have to go to the parties, I said she didn't have to go to the back of the building to drink where it was dark and dangerous.Shouldn't make you lose faith in humanity.... the bystander effect is a very real thing, and trust me, if you were part of a large crowd watching some horrific thing, you wouldn't step up.
Maybe it's disappointing, but its a psychological reaction beyond our control.
Unless you meant the whole 'gang rape' thing... in which case... you have more of an argument...
No I actually I have friends that were molested or rape when they were a child. So no I WOULD NOT JUST STAND BY AND WATCH PEOPLE DO THIS. Maybe YOUR a sheep and would let this happen I on the other hand would not.Shouldn't make you lose faith in humanity.... the bystander effect is a very real thing, and trust me, if you were part of a large crowd watching some horrific thing, you wouldn't step up.

Maybe YOUR a sheep and would let this happen I on the other hand would not. Yea you would. You can think all about what you'd do, you can say you'd step up, but if the time came you were confronted with this, you wouldn't. It has nothing to do with being a "sheep." It's an ingrained response, just as much as pulling your hand away from fire because it burned you. Some people are weird or masochistic and don't pull their hand away, just as some very outgoing people will do more than just gawk and stand there, helpless, as someone gets killed or raped. But the majority of people will do nothing. They'll hate themselves afterward and not know why they did nothing, but it's not their fault.Shouldn't make you lose faith in humanity.... the bystander effect is a very real thing, and trust me, if you were part of a large crowd watching some horrific thing, you wouldn't step up.

Yes, the bystander effect is real, and it's a social phenomenon, but it's not inevitable. You just need to stop thinking(read: freezing, which is what people do in these situations, either from fear or wanting anonymity) for a second, and start assessing the situation, which gets you actively relating to the matter at hand. It's not difficult, and while it doesn't work 100% for everyone, it's worked well enough for me and my friends who were taught it back in high school psych class. If it even gets one person to call 911, then it's a small victory.Shouldn't make you lose faith in humanity.... the bystander effect is a very real thing, and trust me, if you were part of a large crowd watching some horrific thing, you wouldn't step up.

This is horrific, but sadly, not that rare.
I remember a case here in the UK some time ago where a person was attacked and left to die in the middle of a busy road, and people just went by without stopping to help, even after the attacker was gone....they even swerved round the victim's body to avoid her. Really, really sad :(
Please though don't lose faith in humanity and forget our capacity to do good.poptartI still believe though I can hardly blame anyone who doesn't after reading news like this.
That's talking about an older case which was similar. When did this occur by the way? Here brother comments who is 73 – I take it that it happened by in the 60's???

This event happened just recently. The 73 year old brother is Kitty Genovese's brother. Kitty was raped and murdered way back in '64. Her brother made a statement on this gang-rape as it had a bystander effect similar to what happened with his sister. When did this occur by the way?
