It's strange they took him into custody. It's rare for these things to end without the person fighting to the death or shooting themselves.

That's because he probably has no mental problems or anything. He was sane the whole time, he probably thought it'd be fun to shoot up a movie theatre...

If this was done by a Muslim then he would be called a terrorist and people will blame Islam sigh but when someone else do it he is just a psycho you know there are some Muslims who are psycho too.

Dude, what are you trying to do with this?
The problem is a mixture of individualism and selfishness. Societies today glorify the individual and pretend people should just care for themselves and disregard everybody else. This is just the extreme consequence of such mentality. If we created societies where we taught people to care for each other and be empathic rather than competitive and selfish maybe this kind of things would happen less but our twisted mentality of how the world works makes it a twisted world with twisted people all over the place.kuraimen
Oh please, there's plenty of empathy being outpoured from this. Don't take a deranged individual and hold him as an example of society as a whole, that's not right at all.

Personally, I'd just thrown him in isolation and let him starve to death. That would be a nice medium. And tax dollars will be saved as well!

Without being a criminal profiler i'll use my amateur opinion. Usually the ones who choose to live, Act through a greater ideological agenda, Not simply hate filled murder. They are making a statement and view themselves as a sort a martyr. The Columbine massacre was an example of revenge killing. The recent Norway killings was an example of a greater agenda and not personal.

No motive has been confirmed and won't be for a long while - too much misinformation.

Not the world, America. These things stopped happening in Australia since the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 when we introduced stict gun laws. But i'm not really in the mood for a debate on guns.

I don't always believe the death penalty is needed. But at the same time, I do believe it should be saved for that special someone.

Capital punishment represents society's failure to be better than the individual. Killing someone is an act of the individual, not civilization.

Save it for another thread, I think. Let's not get in to a gun argument or derail this into a capital punishment debate.

This isn't an isolated incident. This type of killing sprees are getting more and more common. It's a sociological phenomenon worth analysing and that shouldn't be ignored IMO

I can agree with "SOME" strict gun laws but banning them all together is a horrible idea. It's just going to create more problems with crime.

That can't be right. The dude had definitely planned this in advance. He's probably just down on life about something and hates society with a burning passion. Probably figured he could kill the most poeple in a theater since its a large group of people and the only exits are to his left and right

These events aren't confined to America or any specific nation - crime occurs everywhere, don't try and use this to push a political agenda please, it's distasteful.

Why...? There was no money involved for doing so or no reason for revenge acceptable enough to murder so many innocents in the process.

I guess it's true what Alfred said. Some men just want to watch the world burn...

Society now inadvertently breeds antisocial behavior and as a result stragglers in society lose their ability to empathize.

Society now inadvertently breeds antisocial behavior and as a result stragglers in society lose their ability to empathize.

Even then though. I for example wouldn't really empathize if I was to kill say a colony of ants, but there's just no purpose in doing so, thus why I'm not going to do it. The major difference there is that killing a colony of ants doesn't really have consequences while killing people has severe ones. So even if this man didn't care about their lives, why do it at all I wonder...

Maybe if there wasn't so damn many guns floating around in America it would be a little harder. It's simple, Do what Australia did, Ban sales and launch a buy-back program. You won't get them all but you'll get most. Then just clean up as you go.

You're right. Which means that only criminals will bother getting guns, and your neighbors will go without. How do you not see the significance of this? The fewer people who carry guns the less people will get shot to death.

[QUOTE="Scarebaby"]

[QUOTE="Jebus213"] When things like this happen guns are obtained illegally anyway. :lol:Jebus213

You're right. Which means that only criminals will bother getting guns, and your neighbors will go without. How do you not see the significance of this? The fewer people who carry guns the less people will get shot to death.

I don't see the significance.

So, according to your logic it doesn't matter whether 1 person or 1000 people are shot and killed? Good to know where you stand.

you don't know them and isnt affected you. no need to get upset or lose sleep over it

Piss off.

Edit: Post #96 again!

stuff like this happens everyday and one hits it big and people cry over it. no no,not like anything bad is happening in africa oh god no. it's all sunshine and butterflys. no one cares what is happening over there. but when it comes to this or the tsunami in japan, everyone lost their freaking minds.

honestly i can say it sucks and it's sad but it's not bugging me and i wont lose sleep over it.
