nihilism

Nihilism (from the Latinnihil, nothing) is a philosophical position that argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.

I recently realized I was a nihilist. Any of you guys nihilists? opinions on nihilism?

I think nihilism is bad for society.

I used to be a nihilist, but then I finished puberty.

EDIT: to clarify, believing that life has no purpose is not be confused with the standard feeling of not knowing what one's own individual purpose is.

Yes that's exactly what I'm doing. They've just made the whole concept irritating to me.

I don't think that there is objective meaning, but I'd argue that existence is superior to non-existence so that to me it certainly has intrinsic value.xaos

I think that's fatalism, not nihilism.

EDIT: In fact, this entire thread has fatalism confused with nihilism.

"total rejection of established laws and institutions." = closer to nihilism. It's about rejecting society's values and making your own based on your own experience and logic. And yes, I'm a nihilist by that definition.

Nihilism in it's purest means 'nothing' -- it's not about raging against the machine, not really, nihilism is the rejection of meaning, purpose and perhaps truth.
