There are so many things wrong with this. I just want the people who believe the event happened to explain a few things. And please let me know if I get anything wrong.

If you've taken a marine biology class of any kind, you should understand how ridiculous Noah's Ark is.

  • Salt water and fresh water. If the whole world flooded, the two would mix, killing off tons of sea life.
  • Every organism is part of a complex system. Even the tiniest change in one population could cause some serious problems.
  • Temperature. Weather. Water covering the entire globe would disrupt weather patterns and cause mass extinction. And what the hell is going on inside the Ark to sustain such diverse life?
  • Terrain. Water changes it. Again, this would cause huge problems that would render thousands of years of evolution useless (extinction).

And I think this just barely scratches the surface. Someone could write a novel on this!

And if it was all possible because of God, did He really take all these things into account? Does God know He killed more organisms than He saved? If so, why would he do that? That's evil if you ask me.

It's a mythical story as perceived by the Israelite culture. It was used as a method to teach and show their understanding of God as they knew him. It's etiological, meaning it is meant to teach some theological point. Like most myth it may or may not have been based on some sort of true event, (such as a local flood). It may not be historically factual but it surely mythically factual and it teaches us a lot about the cultural understanding of Yahweh.

You forget one thing Captain Science, he's God, science doesn't apply to him. With that being said I'm not debating this, I've made my point.

Well for most religious stories they really don't have several books on what happened back in history so the belief is that since god did it you're supposed to believe he did it even though there isn't really any strong evidence supporting that myth. I mean I saw a video of what could've been the ark but still, that could be any boat.

What makes him so great anyways? Why doesn't god come down his chariot now and send tsunamis so high that it would destroy half of our population now? There are plenty of selfish and greedy people around to kill.

I think the people who read the bible as a science textbook should be discredited not the book itself. Reading it for science is like reading an English textbook for math formulas.

Because after the flood he made a pact with man saying that he'd never again destroy the world with water.

I accept it as a possibility or as a metaphor. What if the world was cleansed by something that wasn't water, and the ark symbolizing a staying on top of whatever was cleansing. Who knows.

Yeah, but what did he do? Did he really kill all of those organisms? Did he bring them back afterwards or something?

How come everything was executed in such a stupid way? Just to prove that he could do it?

Was God showing off? Does he think he's cool or something?

No one is saying you shouldn't explore science, especially not the bible. The bible is a book that tells the story of the Israelite people's assent to faith, their moral beliefs and the understanding of their God. It ends with the story of Christ and the continuing (Christian) understanding of the Abrahamic God. It shouldn't be discredited because it doesn't teach science. It accomplished the purpose it was meant for, and that is the Israelite story. You can learn so much about the Israelite people and understanding, moral development and historical and literary context from the Bible. And if you so choose it also provides a basis for religious faith.

Yes God shows off, and yes he thinks he's cool. He does things in such extravagant ways to show his power, so that people would believe in his power.

No need to lecture me ferrari I've taken 14 yrs of bible classes, as well as being confirmed in a lutheran church. Basically every Christian I have ever talked too takes these stories literally, which is what I was going by, so I was approaching this from a scientific standpoint.

Where did all the water come from? Did God make it?

What was the temperature and pH level of the water?

And please round to the nearest tenth.

According to Kent Hovind (IIRC, also in jail for tax fraud) it was a giant sphere of ice that surrounded the Earth like another "atmosphere" and one day, it melted, fell to Earth and flooded it till no land was left. Thus, the facts as recorded in the history textbook "The Bible." "Creation Science" at its best.

There is proof that a man did build a boat and filled it with animals when the "known" world aka Middle East flooded around the same time as the biblical Noah is thought to be alive.

According to the Book of Genesis, Yahweh is suspectableto some form of natural laws.

It took him 6 days to create and he had to rest on the last -- MEANING he used some sort of logical process.
