various news websites reporting in about this.

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010/11/23/world/asia/AP-AS-Koreas-Tension.html?_r=1&hp

South Korea has hit back

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea says it has scrambled F-16 fighter jets and returned fire after North Korea shot dozens of rounds of artillery onto a populated South Korean island near the countries' western border.

edit: "Smoke rose from South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island after North Korea reportedly fired hundreds of rounds of artillery from its stronghold on the west coast."

Just saw this on BBC. Please let this be another false alarm. I don't want to see American troops being sent back to Korea.

This seems like an awfully bad idea for North Korea, considering that South Korea's national sport is waging tactical warfare.

Yes, but tactical warfare that really plays on 4 thousand years from now, on a sci-fi universe and effective against aliens

True, but the fundamentals and basic strategys can still be applied to modern warfare.

There's so much to consider here. I would be more comfortable if the UN was involved, and not just the US.

I don't think we need to mobilize all the troops, and Obama certainly wouldn't agree too. But I don't think anyone would object to sending in a few snipers to take out the idiotic leader and his followers.

Nothing is going to happen

South Korea will keep taking there (#$(# and not doing anything while the North will continue bullying and pushing them around.

Edit: Any money North Korea will say it was a accident and that they were firing artillery shells but the wind caught them and magically somehow that's how they hit the island.

China's their closest trade partner but they won't do anything.

I doubt anything will come of it, just like the SK ship earlier this year.

Indeed, it is quite obvious they want this war...like when they torpedoed that S.Korean cruiser. The question is why, maybe they have nukes and are just eager to shoot them at someone .

North Korea has enough for about 6 small nukes. They could take out major cities in South Korea but I don't think they even have the ability to hit Europe or USA.

The countries aiming nukes at N.K are. If it gets to that point China, not being cool anymore, will probably panic and blast anything that moves. Besides, the word on the street is that N.K planning something big.

I'd like to refer the few North Koreans with internet access to this. You're cruisin' for a bruisin', NK.
