Why do people keep bringing up WWIII? A World War is not going to occur over an irrelevant country like N. Korea.

krazy-blazer

Serbia was one of the main causes of WW1 to my knowledge.

We live in a different era now. NK's biggest ally, China is even tired of that crap and they aren't going to risk hurting relations with the US and the West over NK.

N korea cannot beat the south in full scale war. The south is too well equipped/trained.

Pixel-Pirate

But in a proxy war? With North Korea supported by China and Russia like in the first war in the 50s?

Russia won't support them. China barely supports them.

Exactly, the China only supports them because they are like the great wall of china blocking American influence. Russia has no reason to support them since they have basically embraced western ideology and have no ties with N korea.

The world's a different place than it was in the 1950s. The Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore, Russia is speaking out against North Korea, and China has too much to lose by souring relations with the United States.

Could they even nuke South Korea without risking damaging their own country from fallout etc? Maybe if their bombs are small. Someone should accidentally make a parking lot out of NK.Human-after-all

This isn't specifically target at you, but to all the people who want to nuke/invade North Korea. It seems everyone forgets that their are 20 million innocent people who live their under a brutal dictator. It isn't them who are always trying to start **** with other countries, they are just trying to survive. Nuking a country just because of it's leader would only end up killing millions of innocent people. I thought the U.S. was above that.

[QUOTE="revolution2k6"] oh yea? and how did world war 1 AND 2 start? revolution2k6

World War 1 started because allies of hostile nations declared war on each other, pretty much the same for WW2.

ok any the underlying building conflicts LEADING to the declaring of the wars? smartass.

Huh? WW1 immediate cause was due to the assassination of some duke of Austria by a Serbian I believe. When they went to war, their allies were also called upon and also went to war (germany).. and everyone else and their allies went to war. That will not happen with N korea, if they go to war they will only be fighting S korea, USA, Japan and the UK.

Jong would be alot harder to get to, his people are more fanatical and are extremely brainwashed, just look at it this way, a N korean fled to china and could not believe how things were there. She said that everything was so much better than N korea (and she's living in a Chinese slum) and she said that she thought she was living well in N korea and that the state was truly providing for them.

Now we all hate on China for their human rights and poverty and such, but when someone could come from N korea and say China is soo much better, you can only imagine how N korea is.

FOOL, that was the IMMEDIATE cause, the spark that broke the BUILDING tensions, do me a favor, wikipidea ww1. Franz Ferdinand was only a small part.revolution2k6

I'm not sure where you are trying to go with this, I already stated that was the immediate cause, Europe has always had tensions back then because of the amount of empires that were around, but what you fail to understand is that N korea, unlike Austria has no true allies. China will not get involved, and no one else will. The only people who will get involved is the UK,US,S korea and Japan.

[QUOTE="Verge_6"][QUOTE="krazy-blazer"] North Koreans may overestimate their strength, But pretty much everyone else underestimates their strength using Wikipedia as a source. I'm not saying Wikipedia is a a completely non-reliable source, Its just that, when it comes to these type of countries people don't usually know the size/strength of their military. Not accurately anyways, since most of the main sources are outdated. And I think N.Korea expects China to intervene if a war occurs, which is unlikely in my opinion.

krazy-blazer

N. Korea's greatest armored vehicle is an export-version of a Soviet T-62 with a few upgrades. That's worse than the T-72s fielded by Iraq during the Gulf Wars, the tank that became known as "that tank you see burning on CNN". The vast majority of their airfleet is comrpsied of MIG-21s, which were used in the Viet-freaking-Nam War. Their small-arms are mostly crappy AK-47 knockoffs made by old Chinese machinery considered unfit for making their Type 56 rifle. And the men behind all of that are part of a generation so bereft of nutrients that they're nearly a full foot shorter than their Southern counterparts. Militarily, they are an absolute joke.

I doubt you, or even I, are knowledgeable enough to be that sure. Their military information isn't exactly an open source. Most Information on the North Korean military is said to be outdated and not %100 accurate. Which is kind of my point, Its just annoying when people just claim how weak N.K military is and how they've failed already. Its a bit ignorant.

I'm ignorant for basing my claims off of military encounters, satellite photos, and official N. Korean parades? You think the North Koreans have secret battalions of T-90 tanks and whole wing arms of Mig-29s, all modernized and sparkly new? This is a nation that can't even keep its own goddamned capital city supplied with power on a consistent basis, and somehow the notion that their military is hopelessly obsolete is 'ignorant'?

Well to be fair many NK civilians are brainwashed into thinking the world outside of North Korea is a horrible place. If American troops started walking into North Korea then even a large majority of the civilians would be fighting back against them. These people are literally brainwashed in the worst way imaginable. Many look up to the leader as a god. Very few realize the truth of it all and even fewer have enough balls to try and escape the country.

Nuking them would put a lot of people out of there misery but I think a better more humane strategy would be to free these people and educate them with real facts about the world instead of the crap the country brainwashes them with.

Well, to be fair, the U.S. does a bit of brain washing too. I don't know how many times I've heard the media say that the U.S. is "the single greatest country God put on this earth". It doesn't mean people who believe it should be nuked though :P

Really though, it's a tragedy how badly the people live their, and I think people forget that. All we ever seem to think about when we hear of North Korea is "NUKES!" and "crazy dictator". If a conflict does break out, I hope that we don't go over board and end up committing some atrocities of our own.

Careful. Always rememeber that no two wars are ever the same. Never be overconfident in war. That will be your downfall. Also, Iraq is not really a war that you want to point at and say "see how good we are", mainly because, well, we're still there.

It's a perfectly fine war to point to if you're referring to military vs. military combat. In those terms, it was an absolute slaughter.

Perhaps they're using their resources on the military instead of civic needs? I wouldn't be surprised if they did that and I'm sure most people wouldn't. And I didn't call you ignorant. My main point was, how the hell would any of us know the exact equipment of their Armed forces? It's stupid pretending to be an expert on their military. especially it being a North Korean military.

In terms of losses on both sides, perhaps. However, the U.S has suffered greatly from the Iraq war, fiancially speaking, that is. Not the type of victory we want in North Korea.

North Korea does not have the technology or power to attack the U.S. North Korea wouldn't even be able to take over South Korea. They think they are more powerful then they really are. When half of the world is against you, there is not much you can do.

The U.S. currently has around 20,000 troops in South Korea. Is the North attacked the South we would be involved.

This crap never goes anywhere. They have been picking eachother off little by little for years. Do they want to have a war, by just killing a few people here and then over the span of a century? Or is someone gonna straight up declare a WAR?!

IronBeaver

South Korea just doesn't want innocent people to get involved.

you prolly know North Korea is being run by monkeys. but apart from them, there are innocent North Korean residents who are just living their lives, and are oblivious to the world. they are poor and oppressed. they're even poorer than Cubans. most of their TV sets are still old, even their hairstyles are old-fashioned. i know it's sad, but it's all the North government's fault.

on the other hand, North Korean officials do not care for the lives of innocent South Korean citizens.

This is going to be a fun couple of days. We'll see what happens.

North Korea has no allies anymore. Back in the 50s during the Korean War (which is technically still going on), China send a few hundred thousand troops to aid North Korea. However this time China and North Korea aren't on the best of terms.

Basically North Korea is absolutely asking for it, and if they keep it up, they are going to get it...

[QUOTE="krazy-blazer"] I doubt you, or even I, are knowledgeable enough to be that sure. Their military information isn't exactly an open source. Most Information on the North Korean military is said to be outdated and not %100 accurate. Which is kind of my point, Its just annoying when people just claim how weak N.K military is and how they've failed already. Its a bit ignorant.

krazy-blazer

I'm ignorant for basing my claims off of military encounters, satellite photos, and official N. Korean parades? You think the North Koreans have secret battalions of T-90 tanks and whole wing arms of Mig-29s, all modernized and sparkly new? This is a nation that can't even keep its own goddamned capital city supplied with power on a consistent basis, and somehow the notion that their military is hopelessly obsolete is 'ignorant'?

Perhaps they're using their resources on the military instead of civic needs? I wouldn't be surprised if they did that and I'm sure most people wouldn't. And I didn't call you ignorant. My main point was, how the hell would any of us know the exact equipment of their Armed forces? It's stupid pretending to be an expert on their military. especially it being a North Korean military.

If you genuinely think that, then I don't think I'm the one to be accused of not knowing all the facts...

It's a trap for the U.S. North Korea really doesn't care about South Korea, they will attack/ tow with South Korea to get the United States Involved . Once USA gets involved , they would declare war on United States....Cuba would follow suit , and then the most surprisingly one would be China(keep enemies closer than friends) . (But that could only happen if Cuba, China, and North Korea were actually smart)

BUT Really, it's a little petty/pitty fight between South Korea and North Korea as always.

When half of the world is against you, there is not much you can do.SF_KiLLaMaN
Taliban would disagree. i don't understand why NK keeps messing with SK. what are they trying to achieve with randomly blowing up SK submarines or attacking military base? as for NK being weaker then they think they are, well you really cant tell unless theres a war

You can give a very good guess based on equipment and nourishment of the average soldier.

Can i ask a question, what would happen if america helped south korean? would north korea attack USA as well?

SF_KiLLaMaN

North Korea does not have the technology or power to attack the U.S. North Korea wouldn't even be able to take over South Korea.

There's not much media coming out of North Korea so as far as we know they could.

I highly doubt that American troops would get involved.

I hope to God you're right.

Why should american troops be sent to Korea?? Is this conflict a direct offense or attack to the US??

American troops will be involved because we have more then 30,000 troops stationed at the border right now. Sense we're strong allies to South Korea; America would most likely be involved if SK does goes to war with NK.
