Wtf? can someone please explain to me why he would do that?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Already a topic made a day or two ago where people pretty much mostly saw nothing wrong with it and how some people are making it into something that it isn't.
1st, this was already discussed here. But the answer is respect for tradition.Wtf? can someone please explain to me why he would do that?

The same reason Michelle couldn't touch the queen on the European leg of the tour until the queen touched her first.
I'm surprised the ultra cons are still beating this dead horse when a new one has been offered to them by the Becks and Limbaughs. I mean come on move on to what they're now calling him: fascist. That's a topic I haven't seen made...yet.
[QUOTE="nimatoad2000"]its the culture of that country. it shows respect.Cherokee_JackIt shows deference. cmon man, the saudi king knows he's not superior to obama, no one has such dillusions of grandure to think they are more powerful than the united states, other than maybee china because if they have enough money to lend us money, then they must be more powerful right now... but in any case.. it was not saying " your above me" thats just what is done to the king of arabia.. it was a respectful gesture.. not doing it would be like saying mr. obama , or " barrack" and leaving out president.. both would be disrespectful. when america was opening up trade relationships with Japan, the high ranking negotiators would bow to the emperor..... same deal. and if a little bow would help make our relationships in the middle east a little better.. then i doubt obama would mind bowing.. and if thats the case im sure he was aware of it, and thats why he did bow.
thats just what is done to the king of arabia.nimatoad2000It's not what is done to the King of Arabia by the head of a foreign nation. Obama is not his subject.
its the culture of that country. it shows respect. theirs already been a 400 post thread about this. theirs nothing wrong with bowing down. please let it go. george bush used to kiss him on the cheek and hold his hand, amoung other things to help their oil business flurish as well.nimatoad2000oh when did i mention bush? we r talking about obama not bush, stay on topic
oh when did i mention bush? we r talking about obama not bush, stay on topic It's on-topic, but it's not a valid point because kissing him on the cheek is not a sign of deference.[QUOTE="nimatoad2000"]its the culture of that country. it shows respect. theirs already been a 400 post thread about this. theirs nothing wrong with bowing down. please let it go. george bush used to kiss him on the cheek and hold his hand, amoung other things to help their oil business flurish as well.GD-1369211121

It's not like he held his hand and got a kiss on the cheek from him. Wait a minute...That sounds familiar.
IT's rediculous....as an elected leader he represents us....bowing to foriegn leaders is completely wrong....bowing is not respect....it subserviance........I don't expect other countries to bow to us...nor do I expect our leader to bow to another country....Omni-SlashThey bow to each other, it's not because the king is like: "BOW TO ME  " It's just in their culture. Looks like someones a bit too patriotic.

Cons are upset by this? Really?
Obama showed respect. Nothing more. Nothing less

Exactly, that's the problem. We don't show others respect, THEY show US respect. Didn't you get the memo?
Obama is president of the world, and America is teh greatest...didn't YOU get the memo?Bowing to a king in that culture is like pledging allegience.
I doubt Obama knew this and it was just a mistake.

Damn, you're right.
Obama shouldn't even travel. He should make everyone come visit him.......and be thankful they can even do that.
haha, all the world leaders and figure heads have their thing. i dont like the kissing of the popes ring, or the arrogant ways of the queen of england ( give me a picture of yourself? wt...) and bowing down to someone is just as bad.... imo. but itz all out of respect and if you're not pressured to do it then there shouldn't be any embarrassment. but, if it was customary for everyone todo the same for Obama....how many would do it? hmmm...
I haven't seen the video so I don't know, but did the saudi king bow back? I wouldn't have a problem with it if both of them bowed specially if thats a culture thing in their country. If only Obama bowed then yes I would find a problem with that as it shows weakness and as Americans we do not want our president showing any type of weakness to a foreign power.
uh.. the US has the ability to turn just about any country into a radiated crater... i don't think the president needs to worry about appearing "weak" by showing respect...I haven't seen the video so I don't know, but did the saudi king bow back? And good god, it's not like this is bad in anyway, there are no disadvantages to what he has done except crazy conservatives saying stupid things.
So bowing at the end of a play shows the cast is weak?I haven't seen the video so I don't know, but did the saudi king bow back?
