But, honestly, If children were given government vouchers to choose where they went to school, schools would have and incentive to improve.Lab392yeah, there wouldn't be just a bunch of schools closing because they're inadequate, and then the remaining schools would be overcrowded. not at all.

If that were the US' policy...
Well, we wanted change, we're getting it.
Kids are already getting weighed down by homework, tests, study, ect. Adding a few extra hours to that would make it worse, that would mean that kids would have to squeeze their homework, study, and leisure activity into an even shorter remainder of the day. I assume that though that Obama will still let them have weekends off?

There's nothing stopping rich entrepreneurs from starting their own schools to take advantage of the situation, thus alleviating the overcrowding.
But doesn't he want forced community service by school children? Or did he give that up as well?Well, we wanted change, we're getting it.

I haven't heard anything else about it since it was introduced.

If the schools wanted to stay in business, they would.

Hamburger Academy!?!
I'm a transfer now...:P
Where did I say that? I just said teachers, as a whole, need to actually start teaching again. Not just surfing the web all class while the students read the text.

I agree completely. I almost failed physics, probably due to my teacher who did nothing except look up recipesduring the whole class. I swear, she probably could have written a cookbook by the end of the semester.
i swear.......Obama if you pass this i will personally hunt you down:P nah but seriously that is stupid

The system is working fairly well throughout Europe. It isn't half as scary as it sounds.

Ha, I had a computer class where the teacher handed us a massive workbook to work through all semester while he played Myst. I swear, it seems like it's way too hard for a bad teacher to get fired.[QUOTE="zeldaluff"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]

[QUOTE="Lab392"]what are the ages of these independent schools? They usually finish required schooling earlier though.....The system is working fairly well throughout Europe. It isn't half as scary as it sounds.

Some students did tattle on him, but the school didn't bother doing anything about it. Other students used the opportunity to play halo LAN matches. School is a joke. Back in middle school, I had a science teacher who was well known as a pervert. He would flirt with all of the 13 year old girls. He got reported again and again, for years. And only just recently was he fired. If it takes that long to fire a pedophile, something is seriously wrong. And no student tattled on him cause?

I think the other thread did.....these responses foreshadow the average age of this forum.

Mind explaining how you're reading all of this and able to type a response? With correct grammar and spelling no less?
I must say this doesnt seem very well thought out. For the first time I find myself very much against Obama and for the second time I feel like this a bad choice (though the first time there we no good choices unlike now). Kids need to be kids, and this will not make them all go yay we get to learn more! Quite the contrary, even good students will be groaning at this. Not to mention the teachers do have lives outside of school and since they are already at school longer than the kids are this will be bad for them. Also consideringour public schools are funded by taxes and the schools will have to pay the teachers for those extra three hours a day that means taxes will go up (again).
This just isn't very well thought out.
