It is going to be a complete disaster when it comes to funding the thing. The insurance mandate is completely redicilous and does nothing to solve the current problems with the healthcare system. The government is counting on a flood of people buying health insurance to lower the overall cost of plans. The problem is it completely defies logic because more people will pay the fine because it is cheaper. You can spend $300 a month (low ball number) to have a crappy health insurance plan or pay $95-285 a year as a fine for not having health insurance. Once people start taking the fine over the health insurance theyll have to raise the fine in the hope of pushing people to get insurance. Eventually the fine will get big enough that people will be stuck with insurance plan that they cant afford which means theyll need subsidies from Uncle Sam. Thus, it all comes full circle.

UnknownSniper65

IF people buy health insurance they get something out of it, they don't get anything from the fine. The fine also increases a lot of the next few years.

Once again people being opposed to something when they have no idea what it does...

Spend $3,600 a year for crappy health insurance or pay a $95 dollar fine. People are going to pay the fine until it becomes too ridiculous for them to afford. Those same people will then be forced to pay for health insurance which they cant afford or they would already have. Theyll need help from Uncle Sam in the form of tax payer money.

Remember if you only make $9,500 or less a year then you pay $95 fine. Otherwise it's 1% of your yearly income. So someone making $20,000 a year pays $200 in fines the first year.

Its 1% or 95$ WHICHEVER IS GREATER. For 1 year by 2016 it gets pretty expensive. 3,600$ is not gonna be the cost if you are poor because of subsidies. Anyways if you are too poor you are exempt from the mandate and/or get medicaid.

Once again, not knowing what you are talking about but pretending you do.

Where do the subsidies come from I wonder? The magic money tree?

Your snide little comments at the end of every post amuse me.

Eh people that think they know about things and talk about them when they don't annoy me. Yes it comes from taxes, but Obamacare is slowing the increase in price of insurance premiums.

Actually that's not the reason for the Affordable Care Act. The reason for the ACA is to put more money in the hands of the hospitals, doctors and drug companies that stand to make a huge killing from the higher insurance claims. Big business is the winner in the healthcare games.

And how does that not affect the middle class the most? The rich dont give a damn they can afford it, the poor dont give a damn it is basically free, kills the fkn middle class, just like everything else this government has been doing. The time is now to wake up or that is it. Game fkn over

Obvious troll is now obvious.

For those actually curious of the core concepts, this video covers the 3 legs of Obamacare & how they complement eachother.

Theoretically, it sounds like a good idea. In practice with all the little sub-parts/laws is the real question we'll find out.

Well, considering it will allow me to get insurance when I otherwise wouldn't be able to, I'm for it. That said, it could definitely be imporved upon, but there is too much money flying around in washington for that too happen right now.

The entire point of the ACA is to reduce long term health care costs (as in to reduce the amount spent on it per capita and as a % of GDP). What is so surprising about a bronze plan having a high deductible? It has the lowest premium so its to be expected. HoolaHoopMan

No, the point of Obamacare was to make healthcare affordable for Americans. That hasn't been achieved.

I have studied the whole act and done a ton a research on it, as it is a part of what I do for a living. To sum my view on it, i would just say it's (kinda) a step in the right direction. the problems, as some people posted, is that some will benefit and others will not. however I do not think this is the right solution to the health care problem. The ideal solution would be to use a canada or military plan. Sadly we will never see this idealistic universal health care as long as we have these people running the system.

I still want to see universal healthcare, a society will be much better off if its citizens aren't sick and dying.
