Dont even try to discuss this , its a fact.

Rappers sing about how they shot one man down, how they got rich , how they are working out theyre bicep to impress ladies, how they roll with theyre cars, how off the hook theyre lyrics are , how thuggish they feel like , how much woman they banged in last decade, what chains and whats theyre worth theyre wearing , how they miss theyre girlfriends and at the same time saying they would bang them in all different holes , how they would or could smash some other guy in two pieces ( never seen rappers actually getting in a serious fight , all we see is bullets and guns )

How can rap be called culture? its a paradox . They dont make songs - its more of a thuggish myspace profile texts theyre trying to rap about .

Hip Hop and Rap are based off of the same culture but under music genre's they are different things. No way would I call NWA hip hop artists and no way would I call Digital Underground rap artists.

I'm not familiar with the genre's of country music but with rock, we have punk rock, hard rock, power rock, alternative, etc. AND YET, they all fall under ROCK. Its the same thing with this, we have hip hop, rap, gangsta rap, hi-fi (or however you spell it) and even r&b. I'm not even going to go into the pop category.

Hip-Hop is technically not a genre of music though...it is the culture...Rap is the music of hip-hop culture...there are different types of rap, yes, but they are all-sub genre's...gansta rap is a sub-genre, backpack rap is a sub-genre, underground rap is a sub-genre, old-school rap is a sub-genre...however, all these things are HIP-HOP

Uh...of course they are not exactly the same, no two artist are exactly alike, but there are more similarities between Kanye and 50 Cent than you might think. But IDK why I'm even bothering to argue with someone who doesn't even listen to hip-hop but is frontin' like they know something about the music.

The point is do not correct me when I say the genre's are different based off of an argument that it is the same culture. Culture does not equal genre. The topics that fall under the hip hop genre of music which the TC used on his topic title and then to bring it to the gangsta/club rap scene is absurd.

The Cure fall under rock but I bet you would throw a hissy fit if they get placed under or compared to the wrong genre.

They dont make songs - its more of a thuggish myspace profile texts theyre trying to rap about .

you already fail saying rap is a culture, "hiphop" is the culture whereas rap is a genre of music.

But IDK why I'm even bothering to argue with someone who doesn't even listen to hip-hop but is frontin' like they know something about the music.

They obviously want to feel their opinion is justified/informed in saying "hip hop/rap sucks".

you do realize that's impossible right :|

In terms of music genres, it's quite possible. :| Hip hop music isn't anything like rap music.

Either way, they both suck and I don't listen to them.

you phail along with the TC

If having a different opinion than you = phail, then yes. That would be true.

if making an ignorant statment saying"rap and Hip Hop is garbage" then yes you do phail indeed

How is it ignorant? Tell me that.

You are providing me Wikipedia links to the method and the culture.

How about this list - from the link you provided me. Yes, all under the hip hop culture BUT different genre's of music.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hip_hop_genres

Sajedene

Uh huh. Sub genres. Just like there are various subgenres of alternative...but all fall under alternative. Your point?

The point is do not correct me when I say the genre's are different based off of an argument that it is the same culture. Culture does not equal genre. The topics that fall under the hip hop genre of music which the TC used on his topic title and then to bring it to the gangsta/club rap scene is absurd.

The Cure fall under rock but I bet you would throw a hissy fit if they get placed under or compared to the wrong genre.

Rap and Hip Hop are NOT two different genres. Again....depends on the artist whether they are gangsta or not.

But Hip Hop music employs RAP.

The Cure is an alternative band actually. And have been called various sub genres. As long as the sub genre fits I don't mind. I will correct mistakes though in placing them in the wrong genre.

these tourist need to stop frontin' like they know somethin'...there is no difference between hip-hop music and rap music...50 Cent is as much a part of hip-hop as Kanye West...NWA is as much a part of hip-hop as De La Soul

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="Sajedene"]Hip Hop and Rap are based off of the same culture but under music genre's they are different things. No way would I call NWA hip hop artists and no way would I call Digital Underground rap artists.-Twilight-

And Faith Hill isn't Johnny Cash...though both are country. Pink Floyd isn't AC/DC though both are rock....

How in the hell do you have hip-hop without rap?

This is what is confusing about the genre. Hip hop is the name of the culture and is also a genre of the culture. Rap is the action as to how most of (but not all of) the music is typically performed but then again is also a genre within that culture. Kenye raps but does not fall under Gangsta rap. Pharcyde raps and sings but are more under the hip hop genre. Nelly raps and is under the Southern Rap. Then we have Souja boy and god knows where he falls under but its not gangsta and its not hip hop.

Whoever said that? Just because we think they both suck noodle doesn't mean we don't have any input on whether or not they're the same. My argument stands and no one's proven me wrong.
