Ok thats it, I had enough with lies. Radiohead is the greatest alternative band

Its very rare for me to ask this however, I will need my music loving people of OT to clear their heads and honestly put logic and un-bias thinking when reading further on. (as pretentious and stupid as that sounded, I really hit a wall):P

I hate Radiohead and I always have, even back in 1996 when I listened to The Bends for the first time (one of the first albums I ever professionally reviewed) Ive been in the music industry for many years now and if there is one band you hear everyone obsess over, its Radiohead. I can't stand the band for multiple reasons, including the fan base(no offence to those rabid fans) However! I give up. No more lieing, no more bull crap and no more bias.

It honestly seems like Ive been beating around the bush all this time. I will just accept the fact that Radiohead is not a bad band, they are not even a ok band, but they are an amazing band. It takes a lot for me to say this but Radiohead is the greatest alternative band period (of all time). More then Depeche Mode, The Cure, and even The Smiths. Even more so than their American counter part, The Smashing Pumpkins. The quality and sanity these guys put into their albums is beyond superb, how they managed to maintain that high calibur of musicianship since The Bends (15 years ago) is modern Rock genius.

Thats right, we are talking about a band that is genius. A band that goes beyond what we are comfortable with, that tests our abilities to listen, and that engolf of in a world that is created with every album released. Thom Yorks lyrics are probably some of the greatest lyrics you'll ever read. They are incredible clean, and not wordy yet have tremendous mystery to them, infact, thats how most of their work is. A huge mysterious present that everyone is trying to unravel. I can go on and on but I feel like I got the point across.

Without turning this post into a longer rant...In short, I really hated to admit how great they are, but with every passing album it truly is an explosion of fresh air. Whats your thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Who cares?

I really have no place voicing my opinion in this thread given that I don't even know Radiohead, or any of the bands you mentioned in the OP (I mean musically, I have only heard of them), for that matter, and I tend to not share any of your tastes or views on music (except for your dislike of digital downloads). But I will say that, as opposed to Smashing Pumpkins, which I don't really care for (never heard a song i liked by them), I have been wanting to get into Radiohead for ages, and still plan on doing so eventually, because I don't remember ever hearing a Radiohead song I didn't like (what little I've heard).

They get my vote, hands-down.

Frankly, people who cannot at least appreciate Radiohead's talent are either ignorant or dislike popular music in general.

It took me about a year to realise just how amazing the music is, so if you're not getting it, keep listening.

Radiohead are hard to get into, I got into them, but they're not particularly amazing.

They were amazing up until Kid A, but a single band can't expect their sound to remain fresh forever. Respect to them for trying to mix things up a bit, but experimentation's all about trial and error, and I think you'd have to be a really devoted fan to deny there has been a fair bit of error in their catalogue.

Mind you, the way you feel about them now was how I felt about Arctic Monkeys. I just couldn't help but like Humbug, and subesequently I wanted to kill myself. Me from 3 years ago would be disappointed in me.

I was obsessed with them at first, and they got me into music, but I overplayed their whole catalog and now I just like them. They're very, VERY thin thematically. I still think they're miles ahead of the bands they're compared too, though(The Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, etc.) As far as best alt band, it depends what you consider alternative. If The Replacements are alternative, then they're my favorite alt band of all time. If The Reigning Sound is alternative, then that's my favorite current alt band.

Hey, i do agree that radiohead is a good band, but from what i've heard from them, they're not all that great, i much prefer other alternative rock bands like muse and billy talent.

There're amazing, but not the best.

Its too bad half of GS users can't stand Radiohead because if you give them a chance, you might like it. Granted they aren't the best band ever, but its pretty good music if you overlook all the praise they receive (which is probably part of the reason why GS people can't tolerate them).
