Okay. So Sarah Palin needs to quit the ticket.

If she doesn't, people are gonna start talking about voting for Obama just to keep Sarah Palin away from the White House.

Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska's proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS's Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: "That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land — boundary that we have with — Canada.

"…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of," said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. "It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border," she said.

"It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/25/palin-russias-my-next-door-neighbor/

*low whistles*

that's damn embarassing.

That's coming off the heels of one of the most embarassing major news interviews of a major candidate in history.

I think she'd do well to just quit the ticket now before she embarasses herself further, or outright dooms the Republcian ticket altogether.

And that's not even saying anything about her Jew-hating pastor. She's a disaster area every time she opens her mouth.

Even Laura bush said she's not ready.

and Laura was wrong; she's clearly not a quick study. she's a SLOW study.

No...she's just a disaster area. Joe Biden doesn't need to destroy her. 9th grade questions seem to be doing that job just fine.

Honestly, I think Obama tries to make up for his lack of foreign policy by learning and knowing his stuff, where as Sarah Palin just talks about how the fundamentals of the economy are strong and how she was a hockey mom.

I want Biden to destory her so people will be smart and realize Biden will actually help the country more than Palin would. If Obama had just chosen Hilary, he would have won the White House and McCain would have chosen someone boring like Mitt Romney.

What does her pastor have to do with anything? Weren't Dems criticizing people for making comments about Obama's pastor? :?

I doubt Palin will affect McCain's primary voterbase. While it's not going to sit well with the undecided, I'm sure most Republicans would rather have her than Obama.

maybe so...but her answer to Couric's BASIC

-BASIC-

questions were stupifying. and the straight face that she tried to deliver them with. it's almost offensive that she'd be so pompus and arrogant as to presume she ought to be the Vice President of the entire United States of America.

it's shocking how unlearned she is. how out of her leage she is.

Palin isn't ready and either is Obama, yet he is the democratic Nominee for the election... So it's a time for new comers I guess. You can pick inexperienced for President, or Inexperienced for Vice President Makes no differnce. Oh and if you pick inexperienced for Pres, remember you have idiotic for Vice Pres. Seriously Biden scares me sometime. Does he even support Obama?

I agree for most of what you said. But I disagree with the Biden comment, the VP and the pres. don't have to be friends or get along for the most part, infact its almost a good thing, if Obama is president, Biden is the kinda guy that will hammer at him telling him he is wrong if that is the case. I just don't see Palin telling McCain no and it going well :P

It really doesn't matter, I think that at some point in time, Palin or Obama will be president, if not both, no matter who wins.

Why the hell is everyone making a huge deal of the VP candidates this election? The VP doesn't really do anything, unless the president dies, resigns, or is impeached, which isn't very often. All they do is preside over the Senate, woo, a lot of damage someone can do there.

Anywho, in response to some of the comments, Obama doesn't know his stuff, wtf are you talking about? He avoids EVERY question someone asks him, usually with some reference to the energy crisis, and people applaud because they hear "Foreign oil dependency is bad".

because she's the only reason Republicans even care about the 2008 election. the only reason McCain got a bounce in the polls. the only reason they thought he could win. the only shot they thought they had at the Hillary Democrats. now, she's proven she's a dud.

you watch that interview and compare the 2 again.

he may not have a ton of real-world experience...but she's just frekin clueless. her answers insult intelligence.

the notion that she would think she ought to try to be the VP of this entire nation speaks only to her arrogance.

What I really hate is the way she talks about "breaking the glass ceiling". Being a Governer of a state with a population smaller than that of a major city, then saying "Yes" over the phone is not breaking the Glass ceiling. If she becomes President, it's because McCain broke it for her and died. There's a big difference. She is an insult to intelligent women, small-town women, mayors, governers...intelligence...humanity...the list goes on.

One thing I have to say about Palin's experience compared to Obama's: It's not even close. You MIGHT say Obama isn't experience enough to be the president, but you CANNOT say Palin is experience enough to be Vice President, or, god forbid, president if McCain dies. They are on two entirely different levels, especially if you take into factors BESIDES experience. It's not even close.

No, I didn't. She said she doesn't have the foreign policy chops to be VP.

and she's proven she's not a quick learner. it is what it is.

But since you don't like this one, here's Chuck Hagel (R - Nebraska) recently on the matter.

saw clips of the couric interview... it was hard to watch. serious douche-chills. you can see she has no answer to the question.. so she basically reboots and starts to blabber on to some talking points about something completely irrelevant... its really embarrassing.

now even Conservatives are calling for her head:

Prominent conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party.

The criticism in Parker's Friday column is the latest in a recent string of negative assessments toward the McCain-Palin candidacy from prominent conservatives.

It was fun while it lasted," Parker writes. "Palin's recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who is clearly out of her league."

Palin's interview with Couric drew criticism when the Alaska governor was unable to provide an example of when John McCain had pushed for more regulation of Wall Street during his Senate career. Palin also took heat for defending her foreign policy credentials by suggesting Russian leaders enter Alaska airspace when they come to America. Palin was also criticized last week for appearing not to know what the Bush Doctrine is during an interview with Charlie Gibson.

"If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself," Parker also writes. "If Palin were a man, we'd all be guffawing, just as we do every time Joe Biden tickles the back of his throat with his toes. But because she's a woman — and the first ever on a Republican presidential ticket — we are reluctant to say what is painfully true."

Parker, who praised McCain's "keen judgment" for picking Palin earlier this month and wrote the Alaska governor is a "perfect storm of God, Mom and apple pie," now says Palin should step down from the ticket.

"Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves," Parker writes. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first. Do it for your country."

Parker's comments follow those by prominent conservatives David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum who have all publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president.

"Sarah Palin has many virtues," Brooks wrote in a recent column. "If you wanted someone to destroy a corrupt establishment, she'd be your woman. But the constructive act of governance is another matter. She has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to compensate for her lack of experience with brashness and excessive decisiveness."

It wouldn't really bother me, but considering McCain's age and health, there's a good chance he could die in office. You could argue that McCain is different from Bush, but Palin really seems like Bush's female doppleganger.
