It's more or less the fact that his parents are expecting him to make money off of it. Real guitar = more money to be made than GH.

To be fair, I'd assume that a lot of kids his age would want to drop out of school if they were convinced by someone that they'd make a lot of money playing a video game.

I want to hit his parents over the head with a guitar, though.

He probably saw MLG or something, thought "Hey, I could do that if I concentrated solely on GH", and has stupid friends who didn't try to convince him otherwise. And then his parents are braindead, so they approved.

what pisses me off is that the parents initially said no but just "couldn't take the complaining anymore". How embarassed must they be whenever they tell people about the situation? I know raising kids must be tough and it can boil some peoples blood but the parents have responsibilities for their children, and shouldn't just give up when it gets too hard.

This is a perfectly justifiable situation to use physical harm to slap some sense in the kid. I tell you if it was my kid, if compromising, rationalizing or yelling didin't work I would definitely hit the kid.
