[QUOTE="DivergeUnify"]Unless there is a law in the memorial... thats pretty shameful BMD004Is there a strict no dancing policy? lol. Seems a bit petty. Yeah, thats what I'm asking :?
Petty indeed
A-fluffing-men.You can arrest people for dancing, but you can't do anything about the Westboro Baptist Church. Good job America!

looked real. pretty stupid though. gotta say that i don't know the laws of the jefferson memorial, but i doubt there's a rule against no dancing.
They sought out to be arrested, they got what they wanted. Nobody will remember this in a week. Move on to the next story of a teenager or hippy getting body slammed by a cop. It's a neverending cycle, and nothing ever changes or comes out of it when it does occur. Don't mess with the police and they won't mess with you, it is that simple. Unless your black.
The Supreme Court confirmed that WBC can protest. While they didnt rule on anything on the former. You can arrest people for dancing, but you can't do anything about the Westboro Baptist Church. Good job America!

After the first guy was arrested. It was a bad idea for those other clowns to start dancing. What did they think the cops were going to do? NOT arrest them?
It was pretty ridiculous for them to be arrested in the first place. I mean they were slow dancing. It's not like they were break dancing or something.
It's supposed to be a soloemn place for quiet reflection. Not a goddamn party place. You don't dance on someone's grave. SeajackWhy not? If they're on public property and not being obscene, obstructive or loud (and I'm not saying they weren't), what's the issue?
TheokhothBecause it's defeating the purpose of the memorial, and it's rude. The issue isn't necessarily legality, but principal. That's what you kids don't get. And instead of being respectful of the officers, they decided to be dicks and disregard them.
Memorials are to be treated as a grave. A place for remembering someone who did something great, and made a difference. Have you ever visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? Same deal. You really shouldn't even be talking. Someone, maybe your parents, or your teachers, have failed to teach you, and many others that
I knew someone whose family friend requested a huge party at his own funeral. They did.[QUOTE="Seajack"]It's supposed to be a soloemn place for quiet reflection. Not a goddamn party place. You don't dance on someone's grave. BranKetra

It's like the Westboro protests or burning the flag; rude it may be, but illegal it isn't.
If the WBC can protest funerals while yelling obscenities I don't see why people can't dance at the Jefferson memorial unless there's some law against it.Moriarity_And the people dancing will have fun appealing to the courts. The WBCs activities were deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court.

Seems like a bunch of college dumbasses. They had hats on in the memorial, totally disrespectful.
Typical kids with no respect. That's why I hate most of you on here.

[QUOTE="Seajack"]That isn't his grave... it's a memorial. I was totally unaware of that. Thanks for pointing that out! Anything else to teach me? I should have said headstone, as that's the picture I had in my mind. Does that change anything though? Would you dance on someone's headstone? It's supposed to be a soloemn place for quiet reflection. Not a goddamn party place. You don't dance on someone's grave.

On the topic, the SCOTUS doesn't care if it's disrespectful. They didnt care in Texas v. Johnson, they didn't care in Snyder v. Phelps and they won't care if they get this case. Constitutional. Get off your horse and stop acting like a child. I don't think it's appropriate to shout or dance at memorials but what the officers did in the video is ****ing disgraceful. I will admit it's a pretty good attempt at trolling though if that's what you're out for. While I can agree that it's not respectful to dance on someone's grave, I completely disagree with the your statement about hats. I don't believe a hat on someone's head means anything more than a hat on a head. It has nothing to do with disrespect, or anything to do with the beliefs of that person. It's supposed to be a soloemn place for quiet reflection. Not a goddamn party place. I don't believe a hat on someone's head means anything more than a hat on a head. It has nothing to do with disrespect, or anything to do with the beliefs of that person. Go do some research then. You'll find that historically, there is a lot of etiquette to be had with hats. Up until recently, the etiquette had remained very prevalent. I learned my etiquette from the Navy, who are freaks about "hats on/hats off".It's supposed to be a soloemn place for quiet reflection. Not a goddamn party place. You don't dance on someone's grave.

It wasn't my friend. I never met him. Anyway, what a smartass thing to say.Basically, you're saying that the more important a person is, the more respect you should show towards them? That makes sense. It also makes sense that they demonstrated at Thomas Jefferson's memorial, since he was so important to the U.S.
If the rules say that it can't be done inside, it's one thing.

and yes, you do need to get over yourself
Well, the officer said there was a rule against dancing. If this is true, then I have nothing against what they did. They politely asked the people to leave, but quite frankly they started acting as douchebags. They were obviously trying to be arrested and incite excessive force from the police. And if there is such a rule, then these people can appeal it in court and get it overturned and proceed to dance on a memorial if they want.
Now if the officer was lying about the rule, then he certainly deserves to be punished. Still, I don't care that these people were arrested. Even though it is not illegal, I consider it disrespectful in principle, and they were clearly trying to get arrested.
EDIT: Well, my suspicions were true, and this video did not tell the whole story. The protest was about a federal court decision that banned dancing at Jefferson Memorial. They were warned beforehand by the Park Service that they would not give any warnings and arrest them on the spot (and the officer in the video actually did warn them). So my case rests - they went there to be arrested, and they were arrested. I'm fine with it.
Really? You have nothing against people getting arrested for something as petty as dancing? You seem to be the type of person who will obey anything that's made into a "rule". Try to understand how pathetic the situation is, arrested for dancing? Come on, most people would have re-acted the same way if someone told them they couldn't do something like dance.Well, the officer said there was a rule against dancing. If this is true, then I have nothing against what they did.stanleycup98
they went there to be arrested, and they were arrested. I'm fine with it.It's more a case of they went there to stand up for freedom of speech and demonstration The entire idea of being arrested for dancing is so completely stupid and the government needs to be shown that it can't make up stupid rules and just expect everyone to be okay with it.stanleycup98
It's a shame that some people will just go along with whatever the govenment tells them to without any hesitation or resistance.
