When you consider this story in addition to this one, it's quite telling of the current state of the U.S..

Meh...

I would like to know more about what was said and done. The video really dosnt give the full story.

"Of course" I feel bad for the woman and the child had to witness that. "But Maybe" one can think..Have I ever been felt up by a cop? Nope. Beat down by a cop? Nope. Been detained by a cop and roughed up'ed? nope. So just maybe one can say don't put yourself in a situation where that can happen.

cops are people too, prone to human error.

I'd like to think we could hold them to a higher standard than the rest of humanity, but the truth is, we simply can't; they are going to make the same mistakes the rest of us do.

All we can do is punish cops harshly when they do things like this, and not overreact and go "OMG POLICE STATE!"

that's pretty bad, even the police pretty much admitted to their own wrongdoing but have refused any kind of disciplinary action on the individual in question it's almost like saying - so what, what're you going to do about it?

agreed

they did the first half (admitted their mistake), now it is time to do the second half (punish the officer/s, pay the hospital bills).

And? Police are held to a higher standard and while officers will make mistakes in the line of duty, this whole situation didn't look like a mistake or accident. :|

Same can be said about doctors, lawyers, or servicemen/women.

Of course, what happened to this woman was terrible and that particular officer is an insult to the badge...

But mayyybeee she shouldn't have been shoplifting $350 worth of stuff in the first place.

I agree, but if you watch the video the attack happened in February and the cop is still allowed to work, no action has been taken. He should at the very least lose his job and be charged with assault. If we should hold cops to the same standard as everyone else than they need to do the same. They shouldn't be expempt from the law.

I am actually glad you made this thread, I live in Iowa, thankfully on the West side of things, East side has a unruley type of people.  That much I know, I have been sick for a week so...  Have not paid attention to the news.  This was wrong, that officer needs to be taken to prison.  I read a case in Des Moines, Iowa (not a fan of that place) where two people didnt pull over for the ambulance, the call was cancelled, and they came back and caught the car.  They were not cooperative (leaving the car without being to told), which really they were being idiots.  The cops used batons on them, I think they over did it, because they had bruises in multiple places, and I dont think they were fighting, just being dumb.  Point being the cops lost their case, I believe they lost their jobs too.  So no, it is not a police State, but Davenport is retarded.  Thanks for tipping me off, I am going to follow this.

No, cops are not "people." Just as firefighters are not "people" Military personnel are not simply "people" They're trained professionals, who get paid more due to the dangers and responsibilities their jobs require. Can you imagine, if mid house-fire, a firefighter saw a child, ignored him, and left the building, despite having enough time to save the child? Likewise Can you imagine a person, who's job it is to find and arrest people who break laws, blatantly breaking the law? Everyone might trip, or have typos, or they might spill or break something. That is human error. But to consciously break the law, by assaulting someone, while wearing a police uniform? That's not exactly in the realm of human error.
