i think joining is an excellent decision for many young people to make. whether it's selfish (for t3h college or w/e) or patriotic. either way, chances are you will live a good, financially stable (and probably fulfilling) life....unless of course you die from it, which may happen although not likely.NathanHawkins

hippies, who were stoned out of their heads, came to the conclusion that wars were partially the fault of soldiers cause they served as drones to the governments will

so they called them baby killers (killing Vietnamese child soldiers) and did crap like spit on them when they came home after a long period of fighting in a war they didnt want to have ne thing to do with

More often than not, I run into some chump that joined the Army because "they pay for school". I mean, do they even really understand what they are saying? They are signing their life and rights over to the government and put in the line of fire for four years and IF they survive, HOORAY!! FREE SCHOOL!!

I had a friend join the reserves because he got "a free $20k" enlistment bonus. Well, guess where he is now? You can hardly call roaming around Iraq, getting shot at and smelling dead bodies, "free".

Joining the military isnt dumb. Howvever there were some kids I went to high school with that are going because they saw a few too many war flicks. One of them called my entire english class a bunch of wusses because we refused to enlist. He also acted all high and mighty when he got promoted in ROTC, made the underclassmen call him sir, and pretty much acted like he was General Patton or something. Dude youre in ROTC, cool it. The ONLY WAYI would ever enlist is if our country was invaded. GreenmonsterBLS

Not every military person is an angel, the military has over 2 million different people in it.

Way back in the day if there was a war all the men had to fight, but Gaius MArius changed it, so that being in the military was proffessional and all volunteer. And only people get drafted when they really need more guys.
