Both "soccer" and American football are rubbish. Rugby all the way!Darthric
Rugby is for the people who get cut from the Soccer and American Football teams. I know, because when I got cut from my college football team, I made the Rugby team. Turned out to be a good Rugby player.

lol, thats a joke right? People dont even play American football outside the US, and the US don't play Rugby (well there crap). Cant imagine football (soccer) player playing rugby.
Really you got to be American.
I don't know why international audiences don't give our brand of football a chance, I mean, soccer has a reasonable following here. You guys overseas took a liking to basketball pretty well so give one of our other sports a shot. I don't blame you for not being into baseball though, that's boring.Gamefan1986
American football isn't more popular in Europe is the same reason why rugby isn't more popular. In other words, if there was any demand for a game in this category, Europeans would have picked up rugby in a much larger scale decades ago.
I think the reason why basketball became relatively popular in Europe, apart from the Globetrotters, was because it's an easy game with intuitive rules. Someone who doesn't know the game at all can watch it and tell what's going on and share in the excitement. This is not really the case with American football and Baseball. American sports:from least to most complex: basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, American football and baseball.
by order of popularity in Europe: basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, American football and baseball.
See the connection? It's not because they are American sports, it's because nobody wants to spend time rounding up a dozen friends and make an effort to figure out how to play an obscure foreign game nobody else plays when you can just play an established sport like soccer. A good parallel is cricket, a really complex game which is only really played in former Commonwealth nations.
Still, American football is probably more popular in Europe than rugby except in countries where rugby (Union) has been popular for a long time, such as the UK, France and Italy.American football is also a fairly expensive sport if you want to buy the equipment, which is hard to find over here.

This guy is right apart from the last paragraph. rugby is more popular than american football, regardless of countries who majorily participate in it.
I am not a fan of any futbol team. Can't say I don't like the sport, just doesn't inerest me I guess. Now Football is an amazing sport and the Cleveland Browns are my team and Ohio State Buckeyes.drufeous
Quit trying to create a phase where football is called 'futbol'. No-one calls it that and it's not gonna catch on.

My good friend is Spanish and speaks Spanish. In Spanish it's Futbol and that is how he says it and spells it. Thats probably why I did that. Sorry if it offends. Not making a phrase out of a real word for the sport you play. It doesn't need to catch on because that is what the Hispanic and Spanish nations use that word for.

Nice start to the 6 Nations by Wales. Though outside of the World Cup, England are a bit pathetic.

[QUOTE="Pearl_of_Egypt"][QUOTE="CommanderShiro"]Yes I love the game, but I love American Football more. The only time I have good exposure to that "Football" is during FIFA World Cups and Olympics. European Club play doesn't air over here on a consistent basis, and MLS is really really uneventful. I've always been a bigger fan of International play as well I guess. I can't wait for the World Cup in South Africa, its so long away. The_lol_maker
dude, Euro 2008 this June, amazing tournament you should definitely watch.

I enjoy it very much. Since I'm American though, I don't get much exposure to it. We have the MLS (major league soccer) but the teams seem so weak compared to what I have seen at the international level.
I watched the last World Cup and was actually pretty pumped for it (even though the US team is laughable), I rooted for Germany since I lived there for seven years.

"American football is more popular in Europe outside of the main nations, UK nations, France, Italy?"
Na, not at all, Rugby is a fast growing sport and already very popular. Other sports like Basketball for one i agree, but no way American football. I think us Europeans know.
I think American football is liked in Canada, Australia and New Zealand (Aussi Rules Football), but they are a total minority to rugby in those countries (not Canada). No where else really. The only other places are S.America and you got he Pumas there and rugby rules. Japan play rugby, South Africa (goes without saying), Russia is rugby, Pacific is rugby. Growing in Spain/Portugal, Romania (powerhouse in that side of Europe). Pretty much anywhere in the world, if its not football (soccer) its rugby...
So Americans are own there own pretty much...

American football, ha ha!!!! More like american throwball, the ball only gets kicked about half a dozen times in an entire match!!! WTF is that all about then? Surely "soccer" is the proper football, where the majority of the game involves kicking a ball with, surprise surprise, a foot!!!!
L-I-V, E-R-P, Double O-L, Liverpool FC!!!!!!!!
if you mean soccer, then I don't like it. If you mean american football, then I love it.
