Yes there are settlements that are older than St. John's, however, as I understand it, St. John's is the oldest to have been incorporated as a city. Mexico City, by contrast, while inhabited since the pre-Columbian days, has only been an incorporated city (in the modern sense) since 1824.

OK, I see. That's different from the previous claim. I was referring to the oldest city in North America, not simply the oldest city in North America to meet some arbitrary standard.
All I said in my first post was that it is the oldest city in North America. You claimed it was not and then looked up some facts about beans and climates.
It's "generally accepted" that Ticul is the oldest? In about 10 seconds I found several different cities that claimed to be the oldest.
Not going to debate this anymore.
Redfern is subject to extensive redevelopment plans by the state government, to increase the population and reduce the concentration of poverty in the suburb. It had riots in 2004.

-Invented the Saxophone.
-Are one of the biggest arms suppliers in the world.
-Our country is roughly the size of NY, with less inhabitants.
-Even though we are so small, we have 125 breweries making 500 different kinds of beer.
-We founded the European Union together with Luxembourg.
That's all I can think of right now.
In Serbia you can usually buy birth control pills in restrooms as well as stuff like viagra. And Belgrade is one of the oldest European cities and it translates in English to white fortress. Also you see alot more public phones here than you do cell phones *Is proud to be Serbian* LOL what can i say we're... unique xDTheNewEraIcon
How... unique? My friend is Serbian and he joke around saying that Serbians are the most racist people. We do have one hot Serbian teacher, but she is a b**** and she went crazy so many times for small things like coughing in class, I'm not joking.
The worlds biggest half marathon ends here.
Birthplace of Eric Idle (of Monty Python fame)
Birthplace of Ridley Scott (Director)
Is home to the oldest Mosque in the UK (disputed)
Gets its name from the Shields of Roman soldiers shining along the south bank of the river on which it sits (apparently)

George Washington, James Monroe and John Paul Jones all at one point lived in my hometown. A bunch of major civil war battles were fought here as well. No iconic images that I am aware of though.
Apparently my hometown of about 5,000 was the largest distributor of tobacco in the United States a hundred years back. As a result, many things in our every day lives here are in celebration of the tobacco industry such as a festival every year and even my high school mascot was inspired by it.
Heck, just last night I sat on my back porch reading a book with my churchwarden pipe.
North Carolina, US facts (Not my hometown, just live here now): -University of North Carolina Chapel Hill is the oldest state university in the US. -First successful powered flight by man in Kill Devil Hill by the Wright Brothers -Has the largest amphibious base in North America (Camp Lejuene) -Krispy Cream Doughnut was founded in Winston-Salem -The Venus Fly trap is native to Hampstead -Pepsi was created and first served in New Bern (1898) I didn't post facts about the town I live because, well, nothing particularly interesting happened here.BreakTheseLinks
Pretty much this. Except the town I grew up in and the school I attended is only one of four zooschools in the nation and the only zooschool to offer all four major departments: math, English, natural sciences and social studies.
Pittsburgh: Home of the Big Mac, first radio station, invention of the emoticon, Mr, Yuk, first World Series night game, pull tabs on cans, Polio vaccine (you're welcome), first Zippo, first bingo game, first gas station, first movie theater, invention of long-distance electricity (you're welcome, again).
Edit: Almost forgot Pittsburgh's best contribution to life on earth. Zombies!
