Personally, I see marriage as a religious thing and prefer it the way it is. If gay couples want to have marriage rights, I guess civil unions are a good option. kingdre

I'm a Conservative and even I think banning Gay Marriage is wrong.

I think that it should be legal, as long as it doesn't attack religious organizations for not performing it or disagreeing with it.

At the end of the day though, though the Democrats won big, this country is still filled with Social Conservatives.

People with a small comfort zone need to just keep living within their small comfort zone and stop trying to expand that zone to encompass other people's lives. If you dont like whats showing then change the channel. Is it really that hard to understand? Evidently so.

Something else i dont understand is the double standard in regards to "seperation of church and state".

Religion in school is taboo, you cant hang a picture of god up at a court house or a public office, yet this same public office might vote against a gay couples rights to marry BASED ON SOMETHING IN THE BIBLE.

There actually are chruches that will marry gay people, churches that are actually good, that know what love is, I'm going to get married to my sweety someday, I don't care what I have to do, I love him with all my heart and I'd crawl through a lit oven to be able to just see him happy on our wedding day.

A man and a woman, 2 women, 2 men....it shouldnt matter. Prejudice will be everywhere forever. Besides this is not prejudice, people just don't agree. There's nothing to pre-judge? marriage literally means a bound between a male and a female. So why can't gay people come up with a new term? Why do heterosexuals have to bend over backwards for the homosexuals? Don't steal everyone else's customs, get your own.

These days the tradition of marriage has become so meaningless that there is no reason to get married at all. People make promises they can't keep because they have no concept of responsibility. That's why I think gay people want to get married. Marriage has been cheapened into an item of a bragging rights lifestyle. Homosexuals have a disposable lifestyle so marriage doesn't serve a purpose. They are insane with pride. They just won't stop telling people how gay they are. It's like a gay-off or something.

Heterosexuals do not want to be associated gay people. Not unless they are bisexual lesbians with huge boobs. So invent a term that does not involve marriage. Call your union that and we can forget it since it doesn't apply to us.

I find that hard to believe, most consider Europe more socially progressive then the United States in many areas, there are exceptions of course.

I think gays should be allowed to get married. I can't think of any good reasons why they shouldn't be allowed to. I think the arguments supporting gay marriage apply to polygamists too, but I guess I don't have a problem with that either.

That's a horrible argument. Being able to produce offspring has never been a prerequisite for marriage, otherwise infertile couples and people with serious genetic defects should not be allowed to get married either.

I find it sad that people put their religous values before their american values. Larger societies will always try to supress subcultures that they find conflicting with their own.

People trying to pass bills to prevent gay marriage are indirectly saying "I'm living in this country to benefit the freedom to practice my own culture, but I'm not going to give the (ex. homosexuals) the same opportunity because my culture doesnt agree with it."

For those who dont know, religion is part of culture.

And no one owns marriage, there are many different religions, cultures, and societies that practice it. Who are we to say one other group cant have it.
