[QUOTE="nimatoad2000"][QUOTE="Theokhoth"]

None of the founding fathers were anti-religion.

Plenty of educated people hold religion dear in their lives.

Theokhoth

"Some of the more prominent Founding Fathers were anti-clerical or vocal about their opposition to organized religion, such as Jefferson. Some of them often related their anti-organized church leanings in their speeches and correspondence, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson (who created the "Jefferson Bible"), and Benjamin Franklin"

you can look up their direct quotes, theyre also shown in bill maher's movie religilous

try doing some reaserch or knowing what your talking about before you post. it tends to make you seem foolish otherwise.

1. Religulous is a pathetic and silly attempt to mock theists, and is full of dishonest content.

2. Quoting wikipedia at me is an instant failure.

3. There is a distinct difference between "organised religion" and religion.

4. I have done my research, and it doesn't involve Wikiepedia. Franklin, Jefferson and Washington were Deists; do you know what that is?

Please, do some research away from Wikipedia; it makes you seem foolish otherwise.

1: True

2: Wiki has fewer errors than Britannica and this is a forum on a gaming website. As well there are references at the bottom of the wiki articl.

3: one is bad for trying to shove its views, or should I say 'the word of god" down ones throat. The other is good because it is far more personal a thing, I prefer to call it spirituality

4: link? I find it funny how he actually has a source to back his word up and you state yours with none.

[QUOTE="helium_flash"]I don't believe we are a Christian nation, so I have no problem with what he said. If anything he should have included more religions in the sentence.Genetic_Code
Like the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Scientology? Give me a break. Christianity is the only religion that matters in the grand scheme of things. You don't see Jews evangelizing in the States as much as you do Christians.

Actually I thought he should have included Buddhism.

And none of what you said means that the US is a Christian nation.

Why does the truth - ironically - always piss off a bunch of religious people? Yes, there are "nonbelievers" in the country. Is that supposed to be news or something? I like how they basically disregard all of the religious overtones that were present throughout various parts of the inauguration (some of which I thought were a bit much actually) and zero in on that one little line to get all worked up over.

In the end, these are just words. I'm waiting to see if his actions will become hostile to Christians. mysterylobster
I'm waiting to see if his actions will stop hostility to non-christians.

 these people crack me up. Ummm... given that our country was founded on the principles of freedom of religion and separation of church and state, I wouldn't exactly call us a "Christian nation."

Honestly... Why even pay attention to ramblings like this? This is propaganda that extends beyond what Fox and NBC usually dish out. Non-believers and atheists exist. Just because you faith them away and obscure the number doesn't make them disappear. I try not to give pointless confrontational arguments like this the time of day.

Why are people arguing over this, there is no debate. America is a nation of people from many faiths, the fact that people even try and debate this and argue shows me that many people are stupid and ignorant.

I didn't like it. I specifically didn't like assertion that the U.S. is a Muslim nation. The U.S. is not a Muslim nation. A country cannot be of many different faiths. It is either one faith or of no faith. Mr. Obama is confusing Christianity with Universalism. He is doing a disservice to every faith's beliefs, therefore I see no reason to show pity to him.

Genetic_Code

"We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus, and nonbelievers."

Is that not a true statement? Why can't a country be composed from many faiths instead of just one? We are a nation of many different beliefs, he's just stating the truth.

Well he does have a point. Not like he was lying or anything.
