QOTD: Why do nice guys finish last?

I'd like to hear OT's answers on this particular question. Do you believe the "Nice guys finish last" theory is factual or blasphemy?

I believe this theory because of my personal experiences/history.

Example, my last job I figured I'd just work hard and not stir the pot. Do my job and hope to be recognized. I noticed rampant blatant arse kissery all over the place with the owner. I figured he'd be smart enough to know the good workers from the bad. One dude even developed an accent while speaking to him to match the owners accent.

Guess who got laid off. Me. So fk that about being nice now. My new job if someone does something wrong I tell on them. I make them look bad and stupid. I've already gotten a raise. That seems to be the only way to get ahead.

It's hard to connect with people who are always nice. First, its hard to be funny when you are always nice and you never find the limits of what kind of jokes you can make and what kind you can't. Second, niceness can be counter productive. For example, you are going through a **** situation. It's soooo much better when you meet a person who has the same experience instead of just being "nice". Also "nice" can be annoying when you don't agree with the positive statements.

So to sum it up, you want to connect to a person, being "nice" is something that you can do to everyone! So what is there to connect over?

Yeah, that's true! But I was also thinking about this situation. Lets say you are working on a toughn work assignment.

Person A is the "nice" guy. After hearing about it he tells you that its going to be fine and thay you can do it! Nothing more you can say. Maybe you even feel like you can't actually "do it".

Person B after hearing about it, asks questions. Like why is it challenging and what problems are you having? Maybe after hearing more about it he can relate it to his own experiences and bring those up. After the conversation he can give you some encouraging remarks based on facts.

Both, Person A and Person B are "nice", the difference is is that Person B is more than that and is not just defined by being "nice".

Who cares about whether nice guys finish last? Even if it is true that women are only attracted to jerks (which I doubt), I don't care about finishing first. I'd rather be with a woman who loves me for who I am, not because I'm a "bad boy" or a "nice guy." In fact, many "nice" guys aren't as nice as they seem.ghoklebutter
