Fact: Religion is losing influence every day on public life, laws and politics, especially here in europe. In old times, the western world resembled a theocracy much more than today. We're moving away from a society based on religion towards a more mixed society.
Fact: Our morals are always evolving. If we'd have a discussion with someone from the 19th century, we'd look at them like they're some sort of monster. (slavery was acceptable in old times, just like racism, discrimination against women etc.) Our morals are "getting better" every day. Also maybe there were small differences between the morals of theists and atheists, but they could be neglected compared to the difference in morals over decennia.
Then wouldn't it follow that religion is only holding back good morals?
See, I just made a proper argument saying religion is immoral. It's not hard too. Thing is, religion has nothing to do with morals. People look at the bible, and explain it in such a way that it suits their current world view, and set of morals. That's why very few religious people are willing to give away large chunks of wealth, even though the bible says you need to do that to get into heaven.
