WTH is this.

Duxxy, lock it up :P Thread should've been locked at "All criminals are atheist" anyway, I believe that is an insult against religious beliefs.

I'd have to agree with this. Pretty obvious trolling.

The sad thing is, I don't believe for a minute that he is purposely trolling.

I believe your morals come from how you're raised as a child, and religious beliefs can play a role there. But you don't necessarily need god to be moral. In fact, everyone is immoral to a degree, it's natural.

I don't understand why you can't be a good person without God? Hell, look at how many pastors and such get in trouble with little boys. They believe in God, so where's their morals. :? People can live perfectly normal, and happy, lives without God, thank you very much.

Theism is the amoral belief. It blindly holds that moral truths are dependent on a divine power, but forgetting that (a) this divine power does not exist; to counteract this, they pretend it does, or (b) the divine's power law is claimed to have originated from some holey book, but they fail to recognize that the holey book itself is a hit and miss on some moral issues. Morality cannot exist with theism. If there's a guy with a gun threatening to kill people and you have a very brief window of opportunity to stop the attack, you would be wasting your time to even divert your mind from the situation by thinking of or praying to an imaginary being. Putting people at risk for you belief in God IS immoral.

You know the old saying that ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law? That should apply in this case. Whether intentional or not, stating that all criminals are atheists is blatant troll material.

Morals come from society.

This can be seen because of the fact that morals have changed over time, and that there were morals before monotheistic religions.

I never suggested that he wasn't trolling, I merely only said that his intention was never that.. He literally believes what he is saying, which is scary.

Given that to troll is to post messages whose deliberate intent is to piss people off, I'm going to disagree. He is pissing people off, but he's not posting messages for that purpose.

As far as I'm concerned, that makes it even more likely that he's a bona fide troll. People who are just plain ignorant don't go to such an effort to continue posting inflammatory and blatantly false information. He could be one of those 'reverse psychology' trolls who is attempting to paint religion in a negative light by taking the worst notions from it and exaggerating them.

Or maybe he really is just stupid and oddly persistent. I just don't find that likely.

Well, Islamic fundamentalism does tend to anger people, even if its proponents aren't trying to have that effect. I just think, given that his post count is rather a lot more than it seems (this must be about his third or fourth account), it would be unlikely that he could keep such an act up for so long...

beleif from the atheistic community is that morals are mostly learned with a wee bit of genetics on the top. The reason why there are immoral people in the world is because these antimoral people are either antisocial or they learned their morals from the wrong crowd. God has nothing to do with morals.

I think he is. But in any event, it's small issue to me. Trolling is banned because of the effect it has, not because of the action itself, and it shouldn't matter if it's intentional or not. If you post something which has the effect of trolling - something which a real troll would post - you may as well be trolling. Not to be confused with genuine disagreement, of course. Most people are intelligent enough to recognize the difference between strong arguments that piss people off and troll-worthy arguments.

Well, I don't know. When someone makes a blatant statement, regardless of intention, and doesn't even bother to add any meat to his first post, it's kinda obvious that he knows what he's doing. If I go into System Wars and say "Wii sucks cuz Nintendo sucks!", you'd be sure I'd get modded, but if I go in there with a five paragraph arguement, then it's acceptable System Wars material.

We see this in very different ways. I think it's far more likely that a person is a troll if he continues to make alt accounts after being banned and continues posting exactly the same messages that got him banned in the first place. Those who are not trolls usually make at least some effort to conform to the rules and avoid being banned again.

Twas more of an agreement and a cry for help  It's not even like this was a discussion. There was the first post to begin with, then there was some rabble from the back-benchers, then he started quoting them and adding to the mess, and here we are now talking about how this thread went to pot so quickly.

Fast typer is fast O_o Anyway, I certainly see your point - given that his every post here has been wholly without merit and only made people angrier, there's not much to be said against modding his posts.

I'm guessing that he simply doesn't care about being banned. He never did, and never would, amass much status here; I'm guessing as far as he's concerned, there's no reason to temper his flamebait-y views when he can just keep coming back.

I've no doubt he's fully aware that he's going to make a lot of people very angry. Still, posting while knowing your post will anger people doesn't necessarily make what he's doing trolling, unless the post is crafted specifically for that function.

Truth be told, I see logic in Funky's point of view, too. This guy could just be a fanatic who, for whatever reason, feels it's God's plan for him to post his message at the GS Off-topic forum.

[QUOTE="xaos"]You have a much higher opinion of humanity than I, or apparently llama, do ;) It's good to have people who ascribe some sort of logic and rationality to people's behavior thoughpianist

Truth be told, I see logic in Funky's point of view, too. This guy could just be a fanatic who, for whatever reason, feels it's God's plan for him to post his message at the GS Off-topic forum.

After watching some of the Republican rallies in the South for McCain during the election, I don't doubt anything anymore when it comes to religious fanatacism in this decade.

Not really. Why would they pretend to believe in god? Not to mention the crimes that are commited in the name of their god.

Family presurres and just believing for the sake of believing.

Oh. So they do believe in God.

Some of the greatest religious leaders through out history have committed some of the greatest crimes in the name of fanaticism to their god..

MrPraline

Than they are not crimes cuz the person thinks they are doing something good...

Btw these religious leaders are sometimes the most corrupt people you can have...

Wait what? I thought we were talking about the law here, not the intent of the people breaking it.

Eh they were waging war you know from another country, the civil laws dont apply...

it doesn't work that way sunshine. I bet those hijackers couldn't wait to meet Allah

They werent criminals since they thought they are doing something good...

Murder is a crime. They committed murder. Therefore they were criminals. You lose this one, I'm afraid.

Murdering your enemy in war is not a crime...

Maybe in the eyes of your god, not in the eyes of the law. Hitler thought he was doing good.

Yes becasue he believed natural selection to be the end all be all instead of God...
