You judging Rap based off of Soulja Boy is like me judging rock based off of the Jonas Brothers.

Bud, never listen to Soulja Boy. I like rap over genres like rock and roll (All they do is scream into the mic about how pissed off they are) since rap has meaningful songFunconsole

Or FTF. Generalizations like this, make me doubt about some people. Actually, this is making me laugh... not the rock and roll, but the guy who wrote that!
Not all rap sucks you just need to listen to some old school. Try NWA or LL Cool J or pretty much anything before the year 1995. And just FYI I typically listen to rock, Tool FTW!!!
Thats what I really wanted to say. Its so typical to see some "non black person" so they only like Eminem...i hate people that say they don't listen to rap but they listen to eminem, sorry to say but music is racially divided, TC not to start anything but are you white or not black? because i always wondered if eminem was a black rapper how many of you guys would still enjoy his music. I'm just saying what i see

i can also only enjoy Eminem theses days. When people rap about ways they can do it with a woman and calling them names and just being stupid isn't rap. Telling a story or making some kind of sense is good rap for me. Not just saying things because they are "cool"The_Last_Ride
First of all, you don't get to decide what is rap.
Secondly, Eminem calls women names in his raps. He even talks about killing them.
of course something is wrong with society, and rap music discusses this in a variety of ways.
But like most music, an unhealthy chunk of it is garbage, and that unhealthy chunk is the majority of what we are forced to hear
Alright, never posted on Gamespot before, but after seeing a few of these "rap is crap" topics I have to say something. First off I am a fan of good music, anything from Jay-Z to Daft Punk, to Coldplay...not any particular genre. I do listen to Rap more than any other form of music, but good music is good music. With that said, who is to say that Soulja Boy doesn't make good music? People like Soulja Boy make music for their audience and for their setting....partying...No body wants to hear or dance to Nas or Immortal Technique (no disrespect) when they're trying to party and have a good time. Find me one female dancing to Immortal Technique and prove me wrong (rhetorical). So for that audience and setting he makes great music along with all the other "party rappers". There is a time and a place for every type of music, when I'm by myself just listening to some lyrical rap I'll throw on some Q-Tip, Jay-Z, Andre 3000 ect.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EWruiIjBmo When I want to get the party started I'll throw on some Gucci Mane, Soulja, or some New Orleans Bounce music (can't go wrong with N.O. bounce remixes)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WNs7pdsPCo When I'm just chilling not doing anything I'll throw on some vibe music like Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Big KRIT ect... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKWFvbgkWls (Side note: anybody recognize this sample? It's from Chrono Trigger...good stuff) My point is: There is a time and a place for all music...MPC5000
welcome to OT, and thanks for making your first post a good one! Not many do :P

Ha, thanks...Just sick of people always putting down other peoples music just because they are not cultured in that genre. Take the blinders off and the earplugs out, and you'll be surprised on what you actually like.[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"][QUOTE="MPC5000"]Alright, never posted on Gamespot before, but after seeing a few of these "rap is crap" topics I have to say something. I hate country music. To the point it makes me sick to hear it, actually.
But will I call it bad music? No way...it is bad for me, sure, but I am not going to seriously generalize the genre and say it is worthless.
