I'm just being honest. People here are talking about how horrible a game that lets you perform unwanted sex on women is, yet they are also discussing this very matter on a video game site that basks in games like Grand Theft Auto. A game which allows you to keep track of how many innocent civillians you kill for no reason other than your own entertainment...
This is disgusting, but it might help to keep those who are thinking of rape from actually committing the crime. I would like to point out that Japan has the largest porn industry in the world, and the lowest rates of murders and rapes. It's gotta help in some way.

Yes! Lets face it we(as humans) have no idea how the mind works. You have a better chance to get struck by lightning than you do to get rapped in Japan. However America with very strict porn/rape/child porn laws have 30 times more rape. Also the ideals about sex are very different. In America the average teen has had sex by 16. In Japan if a girl has lost her virginity before 20 she is considered useless and tainted. Most Japanese are still virgins by 25 and here in America that same 25 year old virgin is either considered a "religious nut" or a pasty nerd. Maybe the key to keeping rape instincts at bay is this stuff? Who knows...
It's only sold in Japan, and the only way people are going to get it in North America are online, and kids won't accidentally find one in a convenience store. In fact, I don't think a lot of people even knows about those games until CNN broke out the news. Thanks CNN, for arousing the curiosity of lonely teenage males and possibly leading them to do research on eroge games.

You missed my point. I'm saying if you don't have a problem with shooting some innocent guys head off in a game then you should care about rape. I'm not a brain doctor, but it doesn't take a scientist to put the facts together.
Your country doesn't allow rape games, Japan does. Your country has (maybe) 10-40 times more rape than Japan does. You see a pattern? There are games(ninja gaiden) where you can cut off limbs and leave people to die slow brutal deaths. However, sex is what gets our news attention? If you seriously see nothing wrong with that then you've just been brain washed by the media.
We don't know how the human mind works maybe being exposed to this stuff takes about an instinct to rape. There's no proof than anyone ever played one of these games and decided to go rape someone.

If you're going to get outraged at [badly made] games depicting rape; why aren't you outraged at games depicting (and in heavily graphic detail at times) murder and killing in general?

The problem with the "GTA made me do it" claim is that in all likely hood, the kids who claim that GTA inspired them were trying to pin the blame away from their own conscious actions, as well as their likely mental problems. Case in point, I've been playing GTA games since I was 6, and I'm sure many others have, but have yet to commit acts of (extreme) violence against others.
Beyond that there isn't any actual data that shows there is link between video game playing and actually committing acts of violence due to it.
Players of Super Mario don't go around eating magic mushrooms. Or do they?

That's still just a guesstimated number of rape though. Honestly rape victims in America are encouraged to come forward and the majority of people will feel sorry for the victim. But in Japan the culture is different if a women comes forward she might be frown upon and looked as dirty. Rape is just an iffy statistic to look at there so many different variants to it. What if the girl was lying about the rape etc.. it would still be put into the data. But saying a video game will help prevent rape is just flat out ridiculous. And I'm sure the makers weren't like "Yea lets make a rape game so these guys won't go rape girls."

This was my point as well. I'm sure the very same people disgusted by the rape game, have played a game like GTA before, and have also killed innocents for no apparent reason in it. If you find a game like GTA more tame than this rape game, there is something wrong with you.

Sure its easy to dismiss the data. If you don't follow the available data then how can we discuss? How can we be sure anyone has ever been raped at all?
How is it ridiculous? Think about it real hard . How much do you know about the human brain and how it works? With our level of knowledge its ridiculous to dismiss anything just because it doesn't sound practical. The personal computer don't sound practical. I can promise you this games wasn't intended to help anyone stop rape, but I can tell you the effects of this game with their views have worked.
