Well I've found a lot of great new music this year, but most of it is not from this year. However, Contagious by Trapt, New Divide by Linkin Park, and Lifeline by Papa Roach were all released this year, so it isn't all bad so far. I just wish Breaking Benjamin would come out with something new. >__>

Haha I just don't really listen to much music in general lately. The only album I'm looking forward to is the new Muse album in the fall.

Commander-Gree

Which would likely be because you haven't found much music worth listening to...:P Try Sylvan and Iced Earth out:P

Will do. Thanks for the suggestions.

No problem, let me know what you think:P

All the Beatles number one singles have been re-released and remastered in 2009, so I'd say great.

2009 is kicking 2008 ass already. Hopefully many albums slated for a later 09 release aren't delayed till 2010.

I love porcupine tree, but I gotta say I'm nervous about the 55 minute track. Their longest tracks drag a tad in the middle and those are not even 15 minutes long. Green Carnation did that song light of day day of darkness that was more than an hour and that dragged a bit too.

I didn't think LOD DOD really dragged on, the only bit that dragged even a little IMO was that bit with the female moaning/screaming, which still was only really annoying for the last couple of minutes of it...:P

The only part that dragged on in Light of Day, Day of Darkness was the slow part with the woman singer around 34 minutes. Porcupine Tree is usually pretty good about not dragging on. Arriving Somewhere, Anesthetize, and Russia On Ice hold my attention the whole way through. Their earlier music doesn't though. Radioactive Toy, The Sky Moves Sideways, and Voyage 34 get pretty boring...

Indeed. If anything it's written in the way that Colors was written by Between the Buried and Me. I think it's uneccessary though to make it one giant song. Even if it's written as one song, but separated into "movements" so to speak, it should be broken up into songs.

It's supposed to be a double album, correct? Have they spoken on what it's going to sound like at all?

I disagree when it comes to Radioactive toy, the rest I agree with though. I love radioactive toy for some reason. I do think that porcupine tree should try and do a bit of a different sound eventually though just to mix it up, their metal stuff is getting a bit old. I still love it, but sometimes I wish they can do more acoustic stuff or something else.

Yeah that was the part that dragged for me a bit. I hope porcupine tree can deliver a good 55 minute long song, I'm going to see them live in september so I will be seeing that epic song performed live:D

Me too!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Where are you seeing them? I'm seeing them at Club Nokia hopefully if my friend still wants to go. Most of my friends dont like the music I like though so its tough finding someone to go with.

I love porcupine tree, but I gotta say I'm nervous about the 55 minute track. Their longest tracks drag a tad in the middle and those are not even 15 minutes long. Green Carnation did that song light of day day of darkness that was more than an hour and that dragged a bit too.

Heavy and dark... that's all that they've said.

Sweetness, I loves me heavy and dark music:D

There have been some great records released this year. Such as Why There are Mountains by Cymbals Eat Guitars, the new Mount Eerie album and pretty much everything Film-Guy has posted. Those are good lists for the people in this thread (who are stating that "modern music sucks") to refer to.

But my favourite album so far is the new Bill Callahan album. I think it's going to be difficult for it to be knocked off my #1 spot.

I disagree when it comes to Radioactive toy, the rest I agree with though. I love radioactive toy for some reason. I do think that porcupine tree should try and do a bit of a different sound eventually though just to mix it up, their metal stuff is getting a bit old. I still love it, but sometimes I wish they can do more acoustic stuff or something else.Film-Guy
On the last album, My Ashes, Sentimental, and most of Way Out Of Here was fairly mellow, but WooH also had the heaviest passage on the whole album.

I'm seeing them at Vic's theater in Chicago... Same with me on the friends. My only 2 friends that like them can't go. One won't be 18 at the time of the concert, and one is at army training until November. :(

I'm just kinda hoping he doesn't start using his live voice on albums though. I like his studio voice more, though the harsh voice he uses live works with their heavier songs.

I hope the their live show in september is better than the last one of theirs I saw. I saw them in Los Angeles during their fear of a blank planet tour when they had that band 3 opening for them and the sound system they had at the venue was awful. Way too much treble and most of the vocals were drowned out. Have you seen them live before? Do you know who their opening band is yet? If not who do you want it to be? I kinda hope Isis is their opening band, or maybe Oceansize.

No, I've never seen them live before. I just looked, and they didn't say anything about the opening band...

@Diverge: No they aren't going to Florida. :(
