Music is a non-existant term nowadays. Now it should be called "just sounds lining up to be slaughtered by a mainstream artist".GamingcucumberBecause all music is mainstream, right? Wrong

[QUOTE="Guppy507"] I'm seeing them at Vic's theater in Chicago... Same with me on the friends. My only 2 friends that like them can't go. One won't be 18 at the time of the concert, and one is at army training until November. :(Guppy507
I hope the their live show in september is better than the last one of theirs I saw. I saw them in Los Angeles during their fear of a blank planet tour when they had that band 3 opening for them and the sound system they had at the venue was awful. Way too much treble and most of the vocals were drowned out. Have you seen them live before? Do you know who their opening band is yet? If not who do you want it to be? I kinda hope Isis is their opening band, or maybe Oceansize.
No, I've never seen them live before. I just looked, and they didn't say anything about the opening band...
@Diverge: No they aren't going to Florida. :(
They tend to wait until pretty close to the show to announce the supporting band. I would love a different band though, like Riverside:D

Well I wouldn't say it has always suckedI would. Time has washed away the garbage from the music of the past, there was still plenty of garbage popular music back in the day.

I don't know. The music I like is either classics or video game/movie soundtracks so it's not easy to find good music. And I think most underground are junk as well, I have heard very few good new songs that I've liked.

You should check out some of the bands I listed, they are all worth a listen.

Indeed that would be a great combo. I think a Gazpacho would be an even better supporting band though. What band would be your ideal supporting band for porcupine tree?

What do you mean by ****cs and also what kind of videogame music do you enjoy the most?
I also believe Converge is coming out with a new album this year. I'm still looking for Jane Doe in stores, as I don't want to order it. I have a copy of it at 128, but the music is too chaotic for such bitrate :(

I know that pure reason revolution was their supporting band during their last tour in europe. Pure reason revolution's new album would not really suit porcupine tree though since its much more electronic focused. I still like it though most dont. Frost would be good, did you think their new album experiments in mass appeal was as good as their first?

I liked Experimants in Mass Appeal more. Almost EVERY song on that album is amazing. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. Milliontown was great too, but its not at the same level.

Modern prog wise I mostly agree with your top 5. This is mine though:P
Frost*
Porcupine tree
Gazpacho
Phideaux
Anekdoten
I was gonna add Spocks Beard, and The FLower Kings, but they are pretty generic these days imo. Also do dredg really count as prog? I thought they were more art rock. Did you hear their last album the pariah, the parrot, the delusion?
9/10. Easily beats last year.
Anaal Nathrakh's In the Constellation of the Black Widow, and Fleshgod Apocalypse's Oracles are some of the best albums to come out since 2007. Then there's great albums like Drudkh's Microcosmos and Behemoth's Evangelion as well...
A lot of the big names in the music I listen to are coming out this year, and they're all impressing rather than disappointing.

They're progressive rock, but I don't think they're very progressive though. I have their latest album. Not as good as Catch Without Arms, but it was pretty good.

Lunatic soul is a slower paced version of Riverside that was started by their guitarist I think.
