Sounds good. I'll get to work and you'll have a few links waiting for you tomorrow. :P

black_cat19

What bands are you suggesting for him?

Let's see...

After Forever (last 2 albums only)

Apocalyptica

Beyon-d-Lusion (this band isn't very well known; this is the only song I could find)

Entwine

Lacrimas profundere (anything after Memorandum)

Lacuna Coil

Leaves' Eyes

Mägo de Oz (this band's lyrics are all in spanish, just sit back and enjoy the effin' awesome MUSIC ;))

Nightwish

Sinamore

Sirenia

Sonata Arctica

Stratovarius

Therion

To/Die/For

UnSun

Within Temptation

Those are all the bands I know that are completely growl-free, if I recall correctly; we'll see which ones make the cut once I provide links. :P

Well, there's the links. I didn't feel like choosing, so I just picked the best all of them have to offer (imo); I'll let taj7575 decide what's worth it and what isn't. :P

3/5 for me. If 0.5s are allowed, 3.5/5 seems more accurate. Solid stuff, sometimes great stuff, but ultimately a little samey and nothing truly awe-inspiring.

I tend to prefer their non-vocal work, with the exception (coincidentally) of their Seemann cover of Rammstein.

I've never heard the original song, so I don't know how similar it is, if at all, but that woman's voice is pure awesomeness. :D

You clearly aren't familiar with Crunkcore, Reggaeton, and Disney Pop. They are all tied for that title.

It's very alike, apart from the vocals. A very good cover, although I must say that Till puts more emotion in the song.

Same difference bro. Either way, band puts me to sleep with by trying so hard to be catchy and using the verse-chorus-verse structure too often.

I don't disagree that they play those styles of music, but they are also considered Viking Metal, why else would they be regarded as the pioneers of Viking Metal? Despite the viking themed lyrics, Amon Amarth are not considered a part of the subgenre.

Because Quorthon made metal music about vikings. Not unlike Amon Amarth does now.

All you do is list bands that everyone's probably listened to a million times. Don't you know of anything different? It's always the same crap with people like you... If you're going to be a music elitist, expand your tastes to something that's actually out of the norm. UbiquitousAeon
Like what? indie/experimental hipster stuff that nobody listens to? Yeah, because listening to musically oblivious ppl banging incoherently on some drums like monkeys is that much better. = 3

There's more to Viking Metal than just lyrics. It has much to do with the atmosphere and overall sound as it does with the lyrics. Musically, Amon Amarth is simply a Melodic Death Metal band... Bands like Bathory, Enslaved, Falkenback, Thyrfing and Tyr have a whole different thing going on.

If you knew anything about music theory, you wouldn't call it incoherent. No one cares if you don't like Amon Amarth but you might want to stop acting like you know something the next guy doesn't. It's not really cool to act all high and mighty when you're in fact spouting blatant lies.

Hmm well I'd agree that some of their later albums are very similar and some of their earlier albums are fairly similar, but there's at least some difference between their early stuff and their later stuff. Besides, once you've got a great thing going why ruin it? :P

They're all good albums, no doubt about that, but they're nothing special imo. AA doesn't experiment, and the only thing unique about them is Johan's above average voice.

EDIT: If they had more songs like Embrace of the Endless Ocean, they'd cross the line into fantastic territory for me.

Why not? Its a style of singing. There isn't ONE RIGHT WAY to make music, there's lots of different ones. :|Juggernaut140

Most of these growls don't take near as much talent and skill as some good clean vocals. The same skill level of these metal "vocalists" can be practically found in a farm.

I agree that some of those songs are better than Embrace, but Embrace is quite different from anything else they've done I think, and I like it a lot. It's my favorite song on TotTG because it's very different from the rest of it.

Amon Amarth is fun to listen to at times, but I prefer Amon Tobin.

Why not? Its a style of singing. There isn't ONE RIGHT WAY to make music, there's lots of different ones. :|Dystopian-X

Most of these growls don't take near as much talent and skill as some good clean vocals. The same skill level of these metal "vocalists" can be practically found in a farm.

This is why I hate discussing metal on OT. Just ignore the troll Juggs.Guppy507

I like how as soon as someone dabates an opinion he/she is labeled as a troll. Way to go OT.

Clean vocals don't fit in with extreme metal.

It's called dissonance, genious. I thought it was all the rage with you music elitists ever since the 20th century? I guess not...

Anyway, growling takes just as much skill as clean vocals. If you don't believe me, try doing it for more than a couple minutes without proper training and see what it does to your vocal chords. How do you think metal vocalists manage to growl for hours on end at concerts and still be able to speak afterwards? Because they have the skill not to **** their vocal chords up while doing it; it's not just mindless screaming. Same goes for clean singing.

I'm not going to rate them. Good musicians but I hate the vocals.

I can also flick on my throat and create notes. I can even play the William Tell Overture doing it, but you don't see me selling albums trying to pass it off as music. I know better.

Try growling for 1-2 hours (i.e. a concert). Actually, try growling through just one song. :|
