[QUOTE="Nisstyre_56"][QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]Opeth, The Beatles, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Metallica, Slipknot, Korn, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Fall Out Boy, Radiohead, The Cure, Tool, Linkin Park (lol), Disturbed, Dragonforce, and uh... Aphex Twin.
EDIT: Oh god, how could I forget Nirvana?
NecroKvltMuffin
I agree with all EXCEPT Opeth and somewhat Tool. You should go see Opeth live, they're amazing. But if the reason you think they're overrated is because they aren't "true" metal or because a lot of people like them...then, you're wrong.
I find Opeth overrated because their music is boring to me. It's too long especially with what they do with it. Seems to be pointless meandering to me.
you like demilich? wow - good band

I love rage:D
The Beatles- lots of people think they're the greatest/most infuential band ever
Any Disney band/solo artist- this one speaks for itself
My Chemical Romance- any popularity makes them overrated imo

Talk to any musician over the age of 30 about guitar and Buckethead will somehow worm its way into the conversation.
U2 . Absolutely cant stand anything they have ever done.
Pearl Jam . See above.
AC/DC . Hey i can yell stupid lyrics into a mic while sounding like i have laryngitis.
(insert wannabe indie euro me too band here ). Did we really need another one?
Alter_Echo
 I knew someone would say Pearl Jam. How are they over rated? For their entire existance they have always been over shadowed by Nirvana. Pearl Jam can still sell out shows 17 years after Ten was released. They're good to their fans and sell cheap, studio quality bootlegs, keep their tickets cheap, stand up for what they believe in (whether it's popular or not), support many charities, always release a Xmas album for fanclub members, reserve the best seats in the house for fanclub members, etc. Every ounce of respect they've gotten, they've earned.
Hardly anyone had ever heard of bucket head before Guitar Hero. I'm not saying that no one liked dragonforce before guitar hero, but their album sales jumped over 100% after Guitar Hero 3 was released.
jim_shorts
I'm pretty sure Buckethead was well known before GH3. He was in that massive unveiling of the new "Guns N Roses" in 2002 (I think it was).

It really is subjective when discussing "overrated" bands. Personally I think a lot of bands are overrated such as:
- Beatles(never understood why they're considered so musically god-like)
- Radiohead(I find them extremely boring. Creep is the only song I like by them)
- Oasis (Arrogant jerks who make dull music)
- Guns and Roses
- Mars Volta (I'm all for experimental music but this just sounds like noise with lyrics that are failing at trying to be deep and complex)
LAZZOR
Oasis may be arrogant, but at least they speak their minds and don't hide anything. And not only that, they were the most influential BritPop band, and their music isnt dull. It just isnt.
Yeah, because real men sing about sex, drugs, and killing things.I will go with any band crying about their girlfriend breaking their heart. That is weak rock. Beatles, Pink Floyd, Guns N Roses, Led Zepplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Carlos Santana, The Doors, and I cant keep his name out senior BOB MARLEY.
balindos
Bob Dylan goes without saying. It's just assumed. Some automatically toss Elvis into that group, but I'm not so 100% sure he's a "gimme" huge influence. LockedgeElvis was the one that first got them into music to begin with. Plus, John Lennon once said if there was never an Elvis, the Beatles probably wouldn't have formed.

WHo does that?" Guns N Roses just tell you how crazy of a world it is. I didnt mention 2pac or biggie.
YOu mean real men dont cry in their songs.
Nirvana and Zeppelinzepman71God do i hate threads like these....people always go with what they hear on the radio and never by a bands albums. Ive heard Tool, The Cure, RADIOHEAD (serioulsy wtf) even The Doors, people even call The Beatles overrated and then turn around and say Opeth are not! Now add Zeppelin who are considered to have the best guitarist of all time and Nirvana who began the last music revolution. Im going crazy, music is completely not what it used to be...If anyone wants overrated then listen to almost any new age band, and you get overrated. I swear people hype Opeth as if there sound hasnt been done before, people go crazy over Muse when they are a very very very dumbed down version of Radiohead. But an opinion is an opinion....
[QUOTE="nimatoad2000"]metallica isnt overrated either, they created thrash and their first 3 cd's are all quality songs.
Nisstyre_56
You're....joking.....right? Metallica *helped* create the genre, maybe, they didn't single handedly create it like so many people are led to believe. What about Slayer? or Anthrax?
The media and mainstream music journalism has drilled it into people's heads that Metallica single handedly created a genre of music.
R you joking bro, slayer and anthrax are nowhere near as good as metallica in the kill em all, RTL, and master days, tell me every song from slayer and antrax's cd's are good.. yeah .. no...
for whoever bashed pink floyd in the last pages.. WTF..... listen to the Animals cd... then die in a fire for ever speaking about PF in that manner.
i agree with the linkin park and SOAD statements

I dont like Metallica but I respect their music because they are original and tried something new. Maybe other were doing the same thing but they knew they had something Good, new and very creative. LInkiin Park? Whatever. All their music sounds the same and like I said earlier, I dont like bands that cry about thier girlfriends and say how much pain they were caused by it. Be a man, that is all I can say to the Linkin Park singer. "But she broke my heart" BOO Hooo. If a woman drives you so nuts to make you write a song about her then you have no balls because you dont know how to handle your chick. If she breaking balls then its time to replace.

They're not.
... and they DID NOT create the genre. There was thrash before even anthrax and slayer.
Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Nirvana, Tool, R.E.M., Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Nirvana, Oasis, any Metallica after "The Black Album" (arguably anything since "...And Justice for All"), P-Diddly, Fiddy Cent, and Jim Nabors.

:|Get some better reading comprehension. I fail to see where he said Slayer and Anthrax are as good as Metallica. All he said is they helped create thrash. In response to saying Metallica created thrash. And I hate MoP. So boring for the most part.
i would have to say the beatles. were they a talented and influential band? yes. but the thing is, people make them out to be seviors of music and act like every band who came after them without existed had they never came to be. it is possible that rock music would be somewhat different without them. and who has the right to claim such a thing when nobody can totally prove it? dissonantblack
The thing with the beatles is that they loved making music just because they loved making music not for the money. They sang about Peace and Love. How can you have anything about people trying to spread Peace and Love throughout the world. I am not going to say I love all their music but I do like alot of it and there is so much of it. Any band today will make one album per year at the very most and only have like 3 good songs, while the beatle had like 10 songs and you could argue that 8 or all of were good songs. Todays musician are more about the money than the art of it and that is why everything sounds the same. IF you think about the 70s, The beatles, Pink Floyd, The who, Led Zepplin, THe Doors and other all had their own styles and never sounded like a rip off of anything. Today the music industry is controlled by the publishers and they have an influence on the musicians music because they know they can sell the same thing over and over.
Overrated:
The Eagles
Tool
Rage Against the Machine
Sublime
A Perfect Circle
Pretty much ANY lame 90s alt rock, I hate it all.
It's always clear to me in this threads that people take overrated to mean...band they dislike. As such...these threads should cease to exist unless the wording is what band don't you like.:roll:LJS9502_basic
While most likely true, you can't truly know the person put the band down because they didn't like them unless they explicityly state it...

When I see bands listed here that don't get much mainstream exposure...yes I can. In addition when I see bands that are listed but don't have rabid fans telling you that you have no taste if you don't like said band...yes I can. All bands are relatively the same opinion wise. Unless you are Trent Reznor...
I havent really listened to too NIN but from what I have heard I do like. Off course they are not talked about a lot compared to Linkin Park. I didnt even know who Trent Reznor was so I looked it up. hahaha. I never really go into their lives because I only care about their music.

I assume you read that he left his record label and now releases stuff independently? That was the point I was making.
I don't even consider Naked Brothers Band a "band" because it's a tv show, and they're WAY too young to be in a band right now.
As for the most overrated bands, here's several:
Jonas Brothers
Fall Out Boy
My Chemical Romance
DragonForce (they're probably THE worst band ever when they perform live)
Linkin Park

Thanks for letting me know that because I never follow music news but I do follow music. I guess they will be having some creative tunes coming out then. Free from the industry. I dont get why people can take stabs at radiohead, they did pretty much give away their album and let you decide what it was worth. Now that is having confidence in your music. I hope NIN goes the same way because no matter what people give them, it will still be alot more than what any music company was giving them.
