devastating counterargument

What limits the quality of the counterargument is the poor quality of the initial argument. It's like saying science has lead to tons of suffering and pain because it has lead to the creation of guns, bombs, and other means of mass destruction. It's a disingenuous argument that focuses on only one negative aspect and ignores other positive things.

Huh, I thought this thread got locked when OP mentioned that in another thread.

I guess he just can't read... which explains why he might hate the bible. I mean, its FULL of words.

What are some positive things that come along with religion?

True, but if you want religion to end, your going to be sorely disappointed. In fact I'd say just the opposite is happening, enjoy the next few decades as a golden age of logic and reason, where society was not completely run by ignorant, intolerant religious zealots.

Atheists are as bad as anyone at pushing their "religion" (or lack thereof) on people as any Muslim or Christian I've ever met. Even if you're friends with an atheist and you tell them you believe in God, they're quick to point on how stupid yada yada you sound. Basically what I'm saying, the day people stop pushing their beliefs on other people is the day alot of pain, suffering, and ignorance ends.

governments make creed look saintly, not that they are mutually exclusive, but my point is that i dont see TC speaking out against governments.

religion is responsible for a lot of pain and suffering. But then again, so is politics, ideology, race, creed, nationality and everything else that humankind has cared to put a 'label' on.

people will always fight, religion or not, as long as people are different and those differences create confrontations then they'll be fighting people will fight over religious views, political views, racial or ethnic differences, heck people get hostile over what's a better television series or video game
