Then you have pretty bad vision.:|

Nah man, I have glasses and sh*t.

Oh, my mistake.:)

But in all seriousness, if you can't see the difference between a militant fundamentalist and a lax episcopalian then you're not paying attention. There is not a single "brand" of Christian.

Eh.....one wants to repress everything and everyone. The other wants to repress some things and some people.

I don't know...the Episcopal church is pretty lax on nearly anything. Homosexual marriages are honored, abortion isn't frowned upon, and even seen as necessary at times, etc.

I'm not Episcopalian, I'm just saying...there isn't much for them to impose on others, politically speaking.

With what? The federal government is in deep debt. They can't afford it. My state (Florida) is in debt and can't afford it. But why the hell not? Let's just keep spending money we don't have. Liberals truly do live in a fantasy land.

Obamacare reduces the deficit in the long run actually. Not to mention that interest rates on government debt are below inflation so borrowing equates to free money right now.

Um the federal government is expected to spend $3.8 trillion next year and rising rates for following years. We could tax away almost all the incomes from every rich person in the U.S. and still not get close to making that money back. The government is heading for a Greece level disaster if we don't make changes. As states are not allowed to borrow money this could spell even more trouble for all ready deficit states in the future. While I don't agree with denying poor people health care, I think we need to do a lot more with our health care program than simply throwing individuals money.

Or about we stop extending tax cuts and tax breaks for the super rich and the corporations.

The government is already too big and spends too much money. Why give the government more money to waste away through incompetence or inefficiency? If the government can't even cut into the spending deficit (never mind the actual debt) why even bother giving them more money? This isn't even a republican or democrat issue. This is the simple fact the government is mismanaging the funds it has now and that isn't going to change if you raise taxes for everyone.

I guess I'd agree with your original sentiment on a basic level, I just take issue with you making it sound so absolute that all Christians are the same.

For instance, I'm a Christian with decent knowledge of scripture and I pray regularly. However, politically I think it's wrong to use my beliefs in my decision making, when really our government and the regulations we set up should be in the benefit of everyone regardless of faith. Therefore, my personal moral/religious bias has no bearing on my political choices. I am pro-choice, for the legalization of marijuana, and in favor of allowing homosexuals to marry if they so choose.

It's simply not as black and white as you presented at first.

Well the government seems to manage health care better than the private industry. Medicare expenditures haven't risen nearly as fast as their private counterparts premiums and the overhead costs of it are also a fraction of the private health industry.

Your right, it's beyond a political party issue. Both sides have been adding to the debt for years, without looking at the long term. With the Congress deadlocked and bickering, this will only get worse. They will pass temporary bills that kick the can down the road, without solving any issues.

The ACA is at least an attempt to fix things, by insuring more, and using specific methods to cut costs. It doesn't go far enough in my mind, but health care is only one contributor to government spending. I think it's all pretty much out of control, but rather than focus on common sense changes, including tax reform, we have one sid calling for tax cuts and the other for just more spending.

None of it makes logical sense, but that is the kind of world we live in today.

We're nowhere near Greece. And people seem to freak out about a collapse, but there are absolutely no symptoms of a similar crash headed our way. Interest rates on American debt are incredibly low because investors are CLAMORING to store their wealth in something stable. Our debt really isn't a problem right now. It's not even at an historic high.

Cherry picking a handful of unfortunate cases and whining about them = the entire US system of welfare.

That's all the entire article was. A gross over generalization.

You don't think that other nations don't have similar stories depsite their social programs?

And really, this article made our system out to be 100% ineffective and implies the US is practically a 3rd world country with no future. This is the exact kind of BS that OT loves to jump all over.

How is it cherry picking data when its talking about actual money levels that apply to all of the state, millions of people, denying them medicare if they make alittle over $10,000? I am sorry but yet again, how the fvck can you defend this logically.. Oh thats right you can't..

Out of every developed country, we have the hardest time with healthcare. This is fact. We have great quality of care but an awful system of delivering it. We have tens of millions of uninsured people. Costs are prohibitive. If you don't have insurance, you forego preventative care you might need and hope that you don't get sick, because if you do, you go bankrupt. Emergency rooms are flooded with people who had easily preventable conditions. We have these problems the worst out of anyone. And weirdly enough, we're the only first world country without some kind of universal healthcare policy.

A lot of states are tightening Medicaid eligibility. Connecticut (which has a Democrat Governor and Legislature) is tightening eligibility for a certain Medicaid program for low-income adults. Basically CT is worried that the some young-adults are using that program when they are still living with their parents who could afford to buy them health-care through their college. The state is also worried because the program is costing the state more than they expected and they don't want to go broke.

I think it is similar with other states, they are tightening these eligibility requirements because the states don't want to run deficits.

Where does there exist a developed country aside from the US where someone is denied access to health care solely because of an inability to pay? Don't even waste your time looking because you won't find a similar story. This is a uniquely American problem that every other developed country has solved decades ago.

Try living in california where if you have a part time job you make more than the federal poverty line and don't qualify for anything but can't afford anything due to the cost of living.

What CT is doing with medicaid is incomparable to what these Republican governors are threatening to do.

But they were lower to begin with. Medicare actually spends less on overhead and bureaucracy because it doesn't pay entire departments to comb through health records and look for reasons to deny someone care.

O the wonderfull social programs that the poor uses but the people doing alright pays for.

I'm a bit split on this personally, its important to take care of the people of the country, but part of people on social programs are just to lazy or stupid to make a living. Now before you go all nuts i said a part not all. But i feel it is not the goverment place to hand out free money, but rather regulate the necessitiesof life within a certain extent.

You can at least try to sound funny or smart. It won't hurt. Start by not trying to act clever and funny by painting a strawman as a witty retort. Hopefully it'll get you far.

If you're going to respond to me, at least do so in a hilarious manner. I literally yawned halfway through reading that drivel.

In Mississippi, $8,200 a year is too much.

Holy mother of f*ck, I'm an 18 year old kid working minimum wage and I get more than this.

Not to mention I'd f*cking drown in expenses if my father wasn't helping me.

You know having lived outside the US for some time now I see that America has the best healthcare in the world. But its only of you can afford it. If you aren't in the 1 percent healthcare is too darn expensive.

What a horrible situation for a first world country in 2012. I just cannot fathom how healthcare is abused like that, and how accusations of "socialist!" are thrown around should someone attempt to fix it, with the same people not batting an eye lid to ridiculous amounts of defence spending.

The state of the republican party, and the right wing all over the world in general, is mind boggling.

Because the only way to not be a 3rd world country is though massive government entitlement programs. There is no other way at all. Or at least that's what OT thinks.
