From my past experiences with films that have sequels the sequel is most of the time worse than the first one. Examples.

LOTR

Jurassic park

Harry Potter ....lol

Saw

X men

Matrix

etc

One film were i think the sequel is better than the original is Home alone new york.

what do you think?

Am I the only one here that hated Return of the King? The majority of the movie was just a huge battle.. I am sorry but after I see the 100,001th guy die I really could care less how much bigger the battle gets..I liked the first Fellowship much better..

Oldboy is the second in Park Chan-Wook's 'Vengeance Trilogy' - Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. However, these movies are connected only by the director, and their overall theme of revenge, and have no actual canonical story connections. Considering that what often makes sequels shoddy is that the original movie was basically complete, and the sequel was made only to cash in on a popular title (also, I think, the reason why many of the superior sequels are from movies series' based on comics which were made with an overarching story in mind), I don't think Oldboy belongs here. It's not a sequel.

My choices? X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2 maybe LotR (I tend to think of those movies as a cohesive whole rather than a trilogy), Terminator 2, and so on. If we're adding sequels that are equal to the original, add in Godfather 2, and maybe Spider-Man 3.

Which die hard sequel do you mean? Cause Die Hard 1 is the best by far. If you mean live free or die hard then I will disagree heavily.

That wasn't a sequel to anything but the Hobbit. The Lord of the Rings is a single work put into three volumes for publishing purposes. I like the Empire Strikes Back personally.

Actually, according to the director, it's the sequel to Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.

Pirates of the Caribbean's two-part sequel was better than the original movie, The Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum were slightly better than the original IMO, and I think Terminator 2 was slightly better than the original. There are probably more, but my brain is resting.
