ZIP code only, huh? Well I guess that means there are no sex offenders in Canada. I feel so safe right now.

I tried, but I couldn't find a sex offender registry for Canada. I think it's still in progress over there.
oh haha this is totally different page than the one I got my info from, but I got mine a long time ago, but 28

Use this site. That one you linked is inaccurate.

WTF it went up to 1220. I live in rapetopia.
I've heard of people who were labelled as "sex offenders" that committed acts of rape. So sex offender isn't meaningless. unless you're suggesting that 90% of these offenders were just drunk people who pissed on a dumpster."Sex offender" is sort of a meaningless term anyway. I've known people who were labelled as "sex offenders" because they decided to pee behind a dumpster after a night out drinking.

oh sorry, it's not all that far fetched to think someone might say it and mean it on OT... :)

In that case it is, but I think people who actually understand the meaning use it to summarize. It's kind
of like a football team, if I can say I like the Tennessee Titans then why the hell bother saying I like the
quarterback, defensive end, running back, tight end, middle linebacker, etc. It's a horrible example, and I'm
not saying sex offenders are professional football players, but you get the point.

Of course it's meaningless. Because when a dude walks up to you and says that he's a sex offender (or when you look on the internet and see that you have 8 sex offenders living near you), that doesn't tell you ANYTHING about what their offense was.

also, that is what the sex offender register program can prevent, people getting worked up about silly nonsense like that, the one for my state, Oregon, has a list people and there names and offenses, also anyone not listed as a possible risk of repeat offenses or considered dangerous are not required to register for watch list.

If you go to the website it tells you exactly what they were convicted of. Now I'm not saying
all of them did what they were accused of doing, but I don't feel like figuring it out either.

Were any of them convicted of the crime of "sex offense"?
Is "sex offense" even an actual crime?

That's actually close to the real figure. Thanks to a poorly designed and overzealous legal system, the majority of sex offenders are not rapists or molestors.
Anyway, I hate how sex offenders get treated. I mean, the actual punishment is supposed to be the jail sentence but that's the least of your worries as a sex offender. The real punishment starts after you get out of prison when you can't find any housing, employment, and find yourself perpetually harrassed by random people (including the media on slow news days) because senators wanting to get more votes decided to make a registry that any paranoid soccor mom can look up and get all your personal info. Perhaps this type of treatment would make more sense if it wasn't for the fact that we only do this for sex offenders. Murderers don't have a public registry, neither do muggers or other theives.
There are a few people in my area on the list due to sodomy, didn't they get rid of those laws?
htekemerald
look it up, it doesn't just mean what you think it does...in general use it actually means any sexual act not done vaginally, or even more broadly stranger practices of "sex"...

yeah but in society, sexual offenders are deemed the lowest of the low, and if one is not wanting to live the consequences of their actions then they shouldn't have done it in th first place, everyone gets punished.

That's the thing though, why are sex offenders considered the worst type of criminal? It's the most absurd thing I've seen in society. I mean, am I the only person who sees the inherent absurdity in thinking that any crime is worse than murder? It's funny how people freak out about sex offenders but actually look up to murderers in some cases.
This isn't some trivial philosophical matter either. The way the justice system currently works and the ways our laws are set up, it's actually in a rapist's or molestor's best interests to kill their victim and destroy the body than to leave the victim alive and risk being caught for a sex offense. Even though they could very well be hit with murder instead, the penalties for muder are often no worse than what you get for a sex offense and are in many cases lighter. And as a bonus you don't have to worry about appearing on any national registries when you get out of prison.
and I am sure 139 simply got labeled as such for taking a leak in public.
mrbojangles25
I do that all the time. A man has gotta pee ya know.

lol what? Now you're not even making sense. The things the people on the website are convicted for (atleast on mine)
are first-degree sexual assault of a child, rape, sexual battery, and so forth. And like I said before, the term
"sex offender" is used to summarize the people who committed these acts. Nothing more, nothing less. Now for
the ones who get labeled as "sex offenders" who didn't do any of the previously mentioned or somewhat similar to, for
example the guy who pissed behind a dumpster. That I find extremely idiotic, but then again it's his fault for whippin'
his **** out in public.
lol there's one 5 streets away from me. I used to walk right by there all the time on my way to scool. OH NOES.smc91352
Dude, there's three right across the street from me. =/
Now forI agree with thisthe ones who get labeled sex offender who didn't do any of the previously mentioned or somewhat similar to, for

CrystalFox
Now suppose that there was a violent offender registry. And that slapping a person got you labelled the same as a murderer.
THAT'S the situation with sex offenders.
MrGeezer
I get what you're saying, but even so I highly doubt that most people
who are labeled as such are a result of an over amplified conviction.
