Sick child, that was probably the most disturbing thing from Japan I have ever seen. My poor child mind was permanently scared. I mean, the robot was a CHILD, AND A ROBOT. Its like breaking so many unspoken codes at the same time. I don't understand the obession with the 'lolita' fetish or whatever its called...

why? because the guy I quoted said that it is acceptable for females to have sex with a "robot" now, so that in 42 years it might be OK for a guy to have a sex robot designed for males. It was an "if this is ok, then that would be ok" thought, thats all lol.

Anyway, so we dont have any more confusion, if there were a robot designed for men to have sex with I might seriously consider it. Considering its already common now for women to have sex with mechanical devices, I dont see why there would be that much of an objection for men to do the same with their respective mechanical devices.

Awesome. Now I wont have to dress my girlfriends up as robots to get efficient android intercourse.

I think that his predictions are incredibly optimistic. That sort of AI would have to be incredibly sophisticated to pass for a human, and if it couldn't pass for a human, I doubt any sense of fulfillment be genuine. Maybe eventually. But in less than 50 years? I find that hard to believe.

It wouldn't have to be perfectly replicated. But it would have to be replicated to the point of being convincing. That's primarily a function of interaction - and so the sense that the robot is real or fake would be primarily dependent on how realistically it can respond to conversation. Of course, the robot would probably be tailored to the owner, or would adapt to the owner, and that would be the real benefit. It would eliminate incompatibility. Though most people claim it's a good thing to have incompatibility in a relationship, and that fighting is natural and good, the reality is that incompatibility destroys more relationships than it saves, and that fighting is not healthy or good.

And that, I believe, is what the greatest allure of a robot partner would be. Conflict would not occur, and the owner of the robot would continue to enjoy the freedom that a single person would enjoy, but have access to a relationship when desired. It's a selfish form of relationship, but there is no victim (unless these robots are truly sentient), and when you get right down to it, a person is most fulfilled in a relationship when it is always serving his or her purposes, whatever they may be. We are selfish beings.

At least overpopulation won't be as bad by then.

What makes you say that? Nothing short of a devastating natural disaster is going to curb human overpopulation. In all of human history, there have been only a few incredibly devastating disasters which in any way hindered exponetial human population growth (we're talking about volcanic eruptions that altered the entire world's climate and Black Plague type events). So if anything, human overpopulation will be worse by 2050.
