This country is becoming more and more polarized every year. And right now it's to the point where nothing can get done in congress because both sides don't agree on anything, so there's no room for compromise.

Would America be better off being split right down the middle into East America and West America? East America can go to the conservatives, heck they could call it The Republican Confederacy of Capitalstan. And west America can go to the liberals and be called New America. We could even compromise on allowing Utah and the Texas polygamist to become its own theocratic country right in the middle.

The two Americas in this case could live in peace and work cooperatively on common interests like global trade and defense but not on social issues.

If we solved all political conflicts like this then everyone would have their own nation by now.

It doesn't really make any sense to give the East to the right. The right wing bastion of support is in the Midwest and South. The East and West are both democratic strongholds.

No, this is an awful idea. The idea that America is "too polarized" is completely fictional, a story created by the media to influence voting trends and what have you. I get along with nearly everyone I interact with, regardless of their political views.

What they need to do is re-distribute the House and Senate seats based purely on population and see what happens to the vote.

This whole concept of giving every state 2 Senate seats whether it is California (pop.36,961,664), Texas (pop.24,782,302), Vermont (pop.621,760), or Wyoming (pop.544,270) is idiotic.

I know the argument that politicians would never pay attention to places like Vermont or Wyoming if population was all that mattered, but I believe that if you want to live in the state with the population of a large city, you should have as much political pull as a large city, and there are U.S. 21 cities with populations larger than Vermont or Wyoming. Those cities should have more national political influence than either Vermont or Wyoming.

I understand that we cant solve all our problems by dividing every time. But lets face it both sides of Americans want to move this country forward in completely different directions. One side wants healthcare, state education and funding for science research while the other wants nothing to do with healthcare, science and dislikes our president just because he's black and might be a muslim.

I know that this will never happen unless another social issue in the future divides us like slavery did. but to me it seems like there are already two types of Americans.

And they get more say in the house.. That being said, the United States is not designed to be split in two.. Each state depends off one another for numerous industries, and what not.

What? What would be the point? The way people refer to the United States is beginning to make believe it's the only country in America. The united States already consists of states. States are loyal to state, not the federation. We are already separate. Being that The united states is a union of states and only a nation by federation a divisionwould be pointless. All states are self-governed. What would make two federations better than one? Last time that happend there was a civil war.

No, it should be split latitudinally and the resultant countries named North America and South America. It would be much simpler that way.

Politics are like a split personality. They say one thing and then do another.

Also trust me, spliting the country would not work. You know that will only makethe terroristattack both of us quickers, I mean they hate us enough as it is, imagine what would happen if this were to happen.

the difference is, America is not surrounded by Germanic barbarian tribes. also the eastern roman empire lasted for another thousand years
