First of all, I think your biggest problem is thinking about money first. Not that is not important. Just that itshould not be your number 1 priority. What you should be your number 1 priority is going to doctor, and getting aofficial diagnosis. Than, you can take things from there.

If you honestly want to get a diagnosis, see a health professional. If you are unwilling to do that, go to your local book store and check out the DSM-IV-TR, it's what we use to render a diagnosis.Eddie5vs1
It's not wise to self diagnose.

Only you know if this disability will actually prevent you from doing any and all work, and whether it can be treated. For some people, their mental condition really DOES prohibit work, and they should certainly seek disability. But bear in mind that this will never allow you to get far in life financially. You'll get your basic needs paid for and that's about it. So you'll have very little control over what you can do with your life. Disability should always be a last resort for a person.

I think he should get professional help and not make a determination himself. Besides which, for disability doctors are involved.

.....the system is already abuse,

[QUOTE="mattykovax"]As someone with an actual physical disability who has to work because they will not give me dissabality this kind of offends me. Anxeity is no reason not to work.joshrocks2245

Can't a mental disability just be as bad as a physical one??

It's not just anxiety I have, I have some other mental disabilities but I think it's just as bad as a physical disability.

mental disabilities is real... you either really have it or just too lazy to work. that's basically the argument here. ppl have been abusing the work comp/social security for many many decade now, that's why many will suspect that ppl r cheating the system.

Well I hope its something really serious then. Plus, especially with mental issues like that working should be GOOD for you. It may be hard, but with those kinds of issues the worst thing you could do is sit at home and do nothing. If you really get disability I at least suggest volunteering or something,so you do not want to eventually turn into a "crazy cat lady" type.

i think the argument here is that ... if you stop working, the likely you'll ever go back is almost NIL, if you're getting a payment every month for NOT working....DO U SEE THE LOGIC HERE?... alot of ppl have live off these disability checks for decade, and it's highly abused system. again, MENTAL DISABILITY is real, it's just hard to proof.

I agree, which is why I suggested he speak to a mental health professional. I advocated he look at the DSM if he was unwilling to do that as I thought he may get better information from the DSM then various people on OT.

[QUOTE="Deihjan"] he's said it several times. Anxiety. And it's pretty common, and I think all of us have told him more or less to get a job.joshrocks2245

No I meant the other mental problems he said he had in addition to anxiety.

I meant OCD, my anxiety causes my OCD and paranoia and I'm also a hypochondriac..
Those can be pretty bad if you leave them go untreated.

if you're gonna use OCD as a reason NOT to work, I would not. Because they will put you to work in some type of cleaning department. OCD patients often r very detail oriented, perfectionist... ( think about those cleaning crew, that comes in at night! they just clean, don't talk to anyone, and they often work by themselves)

I already spoke to a mental health professional years ago and they diagnosed me with OCD and anxiety. That was a long time ago, I've had it pretty much all my life.

@Sunnystarz: Yeah maybe some people who have OCD are a perfectionist, but I do not think my OCD is a good thing and I am not a perfectionist. My OCD is severe and it's not fun to live with.
I am going to get a job though instead of going on disability.
