Should marijuana be legal?

I haven't read all of the posts on this discussion, but i agree that marijuana should be legal WITH RESTRICTIONS. Its true that marijuana is bad for your health, but i don't think it's anywhere near as bad as those commercial and the such claim it to be. It's also true that no one has EVER died from marijuana overdoses. That is because in order to overdose on THC (the actual drug in marijuana), u have to smoke 3 pounds in one hour, which is physically impossible. Plus, I can guarantee that u have never heard about someone saying something like, "Dude, i smoked way too much last night. I hooked up with this nasty chick and jumped off of a roof into the pool." now do you?

It is also true that marijuana has extensive medical benifits. I won't go into them, because i couldn't possibly list them all, but I do know that i am at high risk for glaucoma, so I smoke occasionally. I'm not going to sit here and say that I don't it recreationally, I'm just saying that it does specifically help me.

You saw it coming, here's where i note some negatives. Any form of smoke inhalation is probably bad for your health. I smoke marijuana and cigarettes, and I definitely notice the reprocussions. Not to metion what marijuana makes you do... absolutely nothing. Most people who smoke it sit on the couch and do nothing. Which, I might add, is what a lot of people do anyway, but trust me, it will take you to a whole new level of laziness.

A major problem that the US gov't is that they would have a really hard time taxing it. But, for those who live in Michigan and agree with me, be ready to vote in '08. Polls will soon be open to vote to legalize marijuana use in Michigan. From what I know, if it is legalized, u must be either 18 or 21, it must be used on private property, and driving while high will recieve the same type of punishment for drunk driving. Maybe I'll see you at the polls.

Have you ever taken any of kind prescription or over the counter drugs? Have you ever notied any side effects from taking those drugs? Right. Cannabis is no different. There are known effects and known side effects. It is the same thing with alcohol and tobacco. I smoke cigarettes. I know I have a chance of developing cancer in the future. I don't need to be reminded by the government banning it.

The whole argument surrounding keeping cannabis banned is one of ignorance. It is much less dangerous then many drugs out there. But not to mention the fact that it has a lot of medication purposes. You ever hear or DXM? It is a common ingredient used in many cold medications, that when used can get you high in certain volumes. Should we ban that too?

I'm sorry, but after reading some of these posts I have noticed quite a few examples of BAD argument. The whole point in proper argument isn't to make the other party angry, feel stupid, or to get them to agree with you. It is supposed to get other people to UNDERSTAND your views, and accept them as your views. Some of these posts are downright rude. What ever happened to intelligent discussion?no_gamer_tag

I have noticed a consistency in Ahriman's posts in that they do tend to be selfish in that he seems to disapprove of anything that doesn't affect him, but as soon as it does affect him, he belives it to be helpful to the general society. For example, he does not care if cold medicine's use is prohibited, but if caffiene's use is banned, he would be rather upset. I know many people who have read my previous post, they would think of this as unfair argument on my part, but I think I;m just calling him out on his unfair argument.

What makes you believe that everyone would smoke MJ just because it becomes legal? Not everyone smokes cigarettes or drinks alcohol.

Decriminalized = Yes

Legalization = No

Medical Purposes = Sure and even if your abusing it whatever

EDIT (to all): These arguments always end up the same. Look, what people believe about pot (whether it's right or wrong, it's benefits vs. drawbacks) are completely irrelevant. People who want marijuana are going to get it if they want it badly enough, there's no way to stop them. Look at how much money is thrown away in the war against drugs. What a futile, wasted attempt that consumes resources to stop something so harmless that could be put to much better use elsewhere, not to mention the release of many of our citizens who committed no greater crime than *gasp* trying to feel good and relax. Oh, the horror! Does anyone have any idea of how much money that would free up for much more pressing issues?

I think it should absolutely be decriminalized and made legal for medical use. These people that are against it just because they are brainwashed into believing it's bad and have not given the issue plenty of thought sicken me. They are selfish, are not taking the bigger picture into account, and in the end are supporting a system that has been proven not to be working.....and for what? For what??

The decriminalisation of marijuana would create far more benefits than drawbacks. The money that could be used elsewhere is so much more important than being concerned about some pansy ass momma's boy throwing a hissy fit because his idealistic notion of morality is being challenged.
