Morally, I think suicide is wrong and cowardly. You must face your problems, nottake your lifeto escape them.Duxsox56
The 'it's taking the easy way out' complaint is such bull**** it's unbelievable. You don't flip **** whenever someone takes the easy way out of using the elevator instead of the stairs, do you? Taking the easy way out isn't cowardice, it's common sense.

Suicide should be punishable by death. Not simply attempted suicide though...

And it's not easy. Try giving a non-suicidle person a rope and tell them to hang themselves and you can be pretty sure that they'll find it very difficult and it's quite likely that they won't even be able to atempt it.

I've heard you get charged but held in a mental facility but the charges are always dropped. The charges are just a loophole to keep you monitored so you can't try again.

i ask this question out of curiosity

people who fail when the attempt suicide are often prosecuted and have criminal charges against them

i guess this is more a moral question, should a person be able to take his/her own life?

Your typical suicidal guy will have a hard time killing themselves the first time but I do believe they should be given the right. Unless you have money why would you want to work and watch TV everyday? It's so freaking boring. Besides our society gets more sensitive by the hour. People really are fragile broken things.

Thats my veiw anywayz.....

No.

Wouldn't punishing them want them to die more? They tried to end their life, yet they're persecuted for trying to kill themselves. They'll want to die even more from that punishment.

It's an awful idea to punish the person for failing. Maybe they just need someone to sit down and talk to them and show that someone actually gives a S*** that they exist.

i don't see how charging them with a crime does anyone any good (if they fail with the attempt). if anything, it'll make them want to kill themselves even more.

Pretty much what I was going to say.

Same here.

Same goes for me.

I believe that under certain circumstances, a person should be allowed to legally end their life, but in most cases, I believe that psychiatric care is normally better than suicide.

No it shouldnt be a crime and for the ones saying it is selfish because you should think of the ones who miss you....., think of it this way....The argument, "You need to stay alive to not hurt those around you", means that your life is a product of somebody else's happiness.

It was, in Britain, at some point. I'm not 100% sure if it's true, but I once read a story about a man in Britain (19th century, not anything recent) who tried to commit suicide - he cut his throat. The medics saved him, stiched his throat back, but he was condemned to a death sentence for his suicide attempt (clever, right?). The thing is - since it's Britain - death sentence means hanging by the neck. So when the man was hung, his stiched came apart and opened a way into his lungs - so he was able to breathe through the hole in the throat. So was just just hanging there, not dying. Eventually, they tied the noose under the cut, and he was executed. Nice story, huh?

Suicide should be a crime (penalty being death). Seriously, though, attempted suicide shouldn't be considered a crime. Obviously something is wrong with the person (emotional/mental instability).

why does criminal charges fix the issue... if he tried to take his own life than he needs a doctor as opposed to a lawyer seriously though, if they do get charged, next time hes alone he'll try again and possibly succede. what are they gona do than?

I'm not sure if a person should necessarily have the right to take their own life, but having hem prosecuted after a failed attempt seems silly. Seems kind of like kicking a person when they're down, only making the situation worse for all parties involved.

I think if you killed your self, that is a crime, obviously, the worst thing one can do to theirselves without escaping sadistic mentality(don't ask  ) is murdering yourself. If you somehow failed because the law had stopped you from killing yourself, it should be considered a crime, however it should be understood that as government, you cannot just let a citizen of your land do that(obviously), also I don't think putting them behind bars is the answer either. Treated as a crime sure, but only for police record purposes, because what the government should then do is help those who have no expectation from w/e, which led them to attempt killing themselves.. Is it a crime? Of course it is. When you're dealing with the government it is a crime.

You have an interesting opinion, but I disagree. You seem to believe that a government, by virtue of being a government, is logically forced into making laws that ensure its survival and that suicide is a crime because it undermines the survival of the government. While it is true that government would cease if everyone committed suicide, it's important to keep in mind that the citizens govern the government. The government does not simply govern without consent. That being said, every citizen has the right to his life, liberty, and securing his happiness, and thus has the right to end his life as part of his natural rights. Government exists to ensure those natural rights are protected. The moment laws restrict our natural rights is the moment government not only stops supporting our natural rights, but also vigorously obstructs them.

no its not a crime, it is just stupidity from someone looking for an easy way out
