Such as?
It's a house and it's white, why not keep calling it "The White House"?
This had better not be some kind of race thing, where to be "politically correct", it should be called the "White and Black House"
This weekend a few guys were saying they should change the name to something more appropriate like the presidential house or CIC palace. They were saying the name appears as an biased symbol to the American population and the building looks like a plantation.
lolz. Its color is WHITE. It's a HOUSE.They were saying the name appears as an biased symbol to the American population and the building looks like a plantation. -PaCMaN-

uuuuh, I think that's obvious. Would you have a problem with it if they changed the color or name would you?

No, I wouldn't have a problem if they changed it. I would have a problem if they changed it for that reason.ugggh... fine. paint it blue and call it the blue house... then no one gets their feelings hurt. because that's everyone's right these days as a human... you can't have your feelings hurt...

No, I wouldn't have a problem if they changed it. I would have a problem if they changed it for that reason.Sadly, in today's society, many people would consider you a racist for saying that.

It's a house. And it's white.
Clever name? No. Effective name? Yes. Racist name? Hells to the no.
My house is painted white too but i can come up with a better name then that. During the times it was giving that name there were ethnic issues in the country.( We all know this ) Now that it is 2008 the name comes off as offensive to many Americans then some white people care to admit. I notice this and don't have a problem with them changing the name or color. Metallic or grey would look more modern.

No. The White House is a national monument and a symbol around the world. Changing it would be dumb, unless they actually painted it green or red or something.
I don't give a rats ass if half the population on planet earth is offended by it.......Offense is not what is important...it is intent......the White House has nothing to do with plantations or race.......so to anyone that has an issue with it....stfu.....My house is painted white too but i can come up with a better name then that. Good! Give 'em something else to whine about and/or confirm their suspicions.[QUOTE="-PaCMaN-"]This weekend a few guys were saying they should change the name to something more appropriate like the presidential house or CIC palace. Maybe some find it offensive because it was mostly built by enslaved and free African-Americans. Just read that on Wikipedia.

Well I be damned. You sound like you have a personal issue with this, either that or you are still too young to express yourself without appearing to be throwing a tantrum. Are you telling me that if the name and color was changed you would be upset? I don't see a problem with it. CIC HQ or The Supreme palace or anything relevent will be a much better fit then just the White House. Why should other Americans stfu if they are intitled to an opinion and want the name change. Personally I want what ever efforts taken to make this country fair to all it's inhabitants, it is the only way America can blossom. This shouldn't be a big deal and if it is.. then perhaps something deep down inside yourself needs to change first.

I haven't heard that, but even then, it's irrelevant. The White House recieved it's name after it was painted white to cover up the burns it recieved when it was attacked in the War of 1812.
EDIT: Oh, and  at the TC who thinks that Omni-Slash is a little child. I like how he assumes he's automatically older than anyone on this board. At the most, TC is probably twenty-five.

Thats one of the points and I don't think many people here know where I'm getting at. Especially when they say things like "Its White and it's a house"

Why does it need to look "modern"? Most "modern" buildings look horrible. A building like the White House would not look right if it was grey, the style lends itself to white. The building would look ridiculous plainted "metallic", it's a state house, not a bank vault. My house is painted white too but i can come up with a better name then that. During the times it was giving that name there were ethnic issues in the country.( We all know this ) Now that it is 2008 the name comes off as offensive to many Americans then some white people care to admit. how the hell are people offended over a bloody paint colour?
Lot's of things were built by slaves.. including the country itself. Why doesn't that bother you?Thats one of the points and I don't think many people here know where I'm getting at. Especially when they say things like "Its White and it's a house"
