[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Perhaps you need to differentiate a forum debate from personal faith.....just a thought.fartwrangler

Oh, so that's your justification for playing fast and loose with the doctrines your own religion. Very poor, I have to say.

Doctrines of my religion only provide a guideline as to what to do.....free will still exists. Nonetheless, this is not a religion debate. Thus I see no point in your fascination with my faith....or me actually.

[QUOTE="fartwrangler"]The syntactical implication being that the comparison was between troops. Now - on what basis do you value American troops more than Japanese civilians?fartwrangler

I wasn't implying anything.

I value American troops more because I'm an American, and a former troop.

When it comes right down to it, my nation is more important to me than their's.

Ah, and now we get down to it - you're a blind, flag-waving sheep. You irrationally value your nation's lives more purely because you were by chance born there. You're a xenophobe and a bigot, and you're the reason so much of the world looks down on America. Well done, have a quote from Einstein; you might learn something. Thought I doubt it. '"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."' And that perfectly encapsulates you, the primitive cave-dweller, still dealing in tribal warfare albeit on a global level. Whereas others have developed the faculties of reasoning to appreciate that one's nation is a matter of chance and therefore no basis for determining the value of someone's life, here you are, spewing your manic, irrational xenophobia. I hate you, and everyone like you.

Just because Einstein was revered as a genius doesn't make everything he says instantaneously correct..he was a pacifist...which would be a mentality that would work if every other nation shared such a mentality...and he is in no way a Xenophobe..i find it amazing how you could tag him as such because he values his fellow Americans..whom he knows...and who are fighting for him to keep his rights and freedoms..and to keep his country free..more then those of the people who would try and destroy it..he is not in any way showing "an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange."..

You know, it's okay that your are against the nukes being used and all that, it's also okay if someone thinks it was what had to be done. While you may not like their opinion you should respect theirs. I'm not telling you anything personal....sorry to disappoint. But the fact of the matter is you made a generalized statement about ethics. And as we see in the world....and as I pointed out....they ARE subjective. And without a counterpoint you've tried to make this a personal assessment. But it's NOT about me or my beliefs but rather about the world at large. So unless you can provide me that all the world shares the same ethics....then I don't see a point to be made here.

What is the relevance to the issue of moral objectivism/subjectivism of whether all the world has the same ethical beliefs?

You don't have to respect him, just post in a respectable manner, or leave. You're no better than he is, why don't you lead by example. Wars are caused by hate.

It is a little ironic that you thought there was no possibility of rational discourse with him, when you effectively closed any rational debate yourself by flaming with vulgarities.

You do know that in deciding to drop the bomb the men who decided such saved the lives of thousands of soldiers on BOTH sides right?..And you know what's funny...the US warned the civilians..and way to choose the largest number from the numerous studies on the casualties at Hiroshima..and the one stating 90,000 died was the one deemed most factual..if a country is at war...civilians will die...it's unfortunate but true...and i don't see where he stated that he valued one soldiers life over the lives of 200,000 people..

Yep, RIP fartwrangler.

I pity him. There is no greater fool than the one who he thinks he is intelligent but acts in such a way that he is relatively thick.

Yes I saw it justified, B-29 bombers we're hitting Tokyo, and other parts of Japan weeks before the atomic bombs dropped, 80,000 people we're killed in those bombings. These people did not have the intention to surrender, until the two atomic bombs we're dropped. Believe it or not, dropping these atomic weapons saved millions of lifes American and Japanese.

A mainland invasion of Japan, military commander's estimated one million American casulties, and who knows how many Japanese casulties as well. Either way you like it, or not, it had to be done, and put the war at end quickly thereafter.

Now what is it. Did they or did they not intend to surrender? Cause I am hearing two stories and both sides seem very convinced about the matter.

Well, we shouldn't have dropped nukes on them, but then again they shouldn't have invaded China or bombed Pearl Harbor, and Germany shouldn't have killed millions of people in concentration camps. Maybe that makes us the least bad of the bad guys?

No, the Japanese were NOT going to surrender. They were going to fight to the bitter end.

The japanese had a policy of "no surrender" to the last man but as soon as the higher ups (emperor) saw that he wan't safe anymore in Jpan mainland he pulled the plug on the whole thing.

And the army surrendered.

----

As a side note, Japan lost almost every battle on the pacific against the US. THeir small arms, planes, carriers, battlle ships were all INFERIOR and harder to repair or survive a battle. the Japanes at the end barely had a production of weapons capable of suupplying the war effort

Vaasman

They attacked us, and did many diguesting acts in asia.

No hate towards the Japanese. But they got what the deserved.

They betrayed us, it was war. Your countrie's population is more important then the enemies. Why let Americans die, when we could end it right there?

Ivasion would have cost WAY more lives.
