The current rule is that US Navy and US Coast Guard(New rule) military personell can become Navy(OR CG) SEALs, but only if they're male.

Women can be EODs, which get similar training to SEALs, Royal Marines, or Delta Force, but they can't be SEALs.

What are your thoughts on this?

SEALs require lots of physical energy, and males are more than capable of handling It.

EODs require the same level of physical standard, as well as additional standards.

Yes, they should be allowed. But there might be a slight increase of deaths from not paying attention to the job at hand...

I agree with this. There is only situation that I really dont think women should be allowed in, and should remain a same sex situation. Submarines. Due to the long term isolation and mental issues associated with it, such as small things causing huge uproars, it would just be asking for trouble.

Had a cousin who did some time on the submarine. Some guy stole someone elses brush or something. He was almost killed cause the crew mauled him. Had to surface and have the guy taken away my helicopter. It is just that SOME situations where isolation for long term shouldnt allow variables when it is almost impossble to control all primal emotions.

That's a misleading statement. I take the same Army Physical Fitness Test as a Green Beret, and I'm a cadet. The pt test is just a metric for quantifying what kind of shape you are in. Navy Seals train much harder physically than EOD.

I don't think they should be Navy SEALS, or in the military and other related roles (Law enforcement, etc.)
I believe it violates God's Natural Order, with men as the protectors and providers.

Yeah, I guess you're right, but still, it's kind of strange, seeing as just to apply you have to be in very excellent physical condition, and you can be attached to a SEAL team.

I personally don't have an opinion on it, I just wanted to hear others.

You make is sound like a prison sentence, but I see where you're coming from.

Well it was kind of for him. I dont understand it. You may have done it so you do more than me. I can only go by what he told me. Which was that there is ALOT of tension. He said everyone was good to each other but you had to be on your toes and make sure you didnt cause even a ounce of additional tension because people would snap on it.

Those incidents where it becomes violence to that degree is rare, or just just covered publically. It is just that the only thing he said that is yours is your little bed and you didnt even have that all to yourself. Because people shared the beds between their shifts. So it was very important not to touch the individual items, such as toothbrushes, brushes, picture maybe.

This is only by what he told me. He said submarine is 50x tougher mentally than being on a carrier long term. It is the isolation that drives people mad and the knowledge that you cant walk outside to get a breath of freash air. No playing ball on the deck, or anything recreational save for maybe playing cards.

However one other thing about the subject. Since we are all talking about a serious subject. In many countries, especially those that still use alot of old time tactics, would the woman being on her period compromise their position if the scent was picked up by trained dogs or some other means?

If the women cant go on missions when they get their period, does that make it worth it if they are asked to go on a critical mission with no notice?

Can the seals have it, and it not contested, that a woman has to get the depo shot which stops periods, which can have side effects as a rule?

Stuff like that.

Well thats the package really. Isolation is one of its most brutal forms. Its impossible to not be irritated by someone. However the screening to do submarine duty he said is very.. detailed. Women are not allowed to serve on submarines.

I have never been in a submarine but you and your cousin make valid points. However, I did hear that some submarines have a track in them. It's still cramped and the isolation is a huge mental burden but I think the DOD made a lot of effort to make life easier more normal for the men.

SEALs are high class soldiers, top notch, its proven males are stronger than females. so, it wouldnt make sense to have chicks in there.

Plenty of women (inlcuding myself) control my period thanks to birth control.

I think the only way for this to happen is for men to see the women as their equals just as how they've learned to accept that in the line of duty - color or what state you live in or what religion you are, you are a team, a "band of brothers", etc. but since we are not there yet, there are a lot of compromises.

GI Jane was an awesome movie btw and totally addressed a lot of these issues.

The distraction comes from when a female in wounded, the men will feel obligated to help her even if it puts the whole unit in danger. It is also a huge moral buster.
