[QUOTE="-TheSecondSign-"][QUOTE="CreasianDevaili"][QUOTE="entropyecho"] [QUOTE="CreasianDevaili"]Had a cousin who did some time on the submarine. CreasianDevaili
You make is sound like a prison sentence, but I see where you're coming from.
Well it was kind of for him. I dont understand it. You may have done it so you do more than me. I can only go by what he told me. Which was that there is ALOT of tension. He said everyone was good to each other but you had to be on your toes and make sure you didnt cause even a ounce of additional tension because people would snap on it.
Those incidents where it becomes violence to that degree is rare, or just just covered publically. It is just that the only thing he said that is yours is your little bed and you didnt even have that all to yourself. Because people shared the beds between their shifts. So it was very important not to touch the individual items, such as toothbrushes, brushes, picture maybe.
This is only by what he told me. He said submarine is 50x tougher mentally than being on a carrier long term. It is the isolation that drives people mad and the knowledge that you cant walk outside to get a breath of freash air. No playing ball on the deck, or anything recreational save for maybe playing cards.
The isolation I wouldn't mind, but not being able to go outside would have me on edge.
Well thats the package really. Isolation is one of its most brutal forms. Its impossible to not be irritated by someone. However the screening to do submarine duty he said is very.. detailed. Women are not allowed to serve on submarines.
THAT is a tricky subject.
