So what's your preference? A very clean desktop with no stray icons(well, perhaps recycle bin)? Or perhaps one that has all your program shortcuts but organized into distinguishable stacks? My desktop was once cluttered with lots of icons. Office programs on the left stack, games at the bottom stack, media programs(Virtual DJ, particle illusion, mixmeister, etc) at the right stack and browsers at the top stack...But then one day I saw my girlfriend's laptop and her desktop was clean. I adapted to the clean desktop principle since then...

Doesn't matter to me because I don't look at it anyway. I've always been more of a taskbar person myself.

I have 6 desktop icons. My Computer, Recycle Bin, Firefox, Steam, Ventrilo, and Zune player. I can't stand when I see column after column of icons on someone's desktop.

Clean. Anything I don't use on a regular basis gets stuck in the "misc." folder.

Cluttered but organized. Why would I want to open my school projects and documents by going Windows --> My Document --> Open PDF file when I could just go Windows+D --> Open PDF?

I prefer mine clean. The only shortcut on the desktop is the recycle bin and I only put shortcuts on the taskbar.

I prefer nothing on my desktop. That's why I love the Dock/Taskbar (depending on Mac or PC). My wife on the other hand feels the need to keep all her folders on the desktop. So, you can imagine my frustration. Why have a beautiful high res screen with a nice wallpaper if you can't see it?

Simple and clean. I have two icons on my desktop and those are ALice 2.2, and MyItLab and they are both for college. The rest of my stuff is either in folders on a taskbar. I use RocketDock.

btw, if anyone is curious what resides in the new text document all the way to the right it's a ff9 trick

For some reason I skipped over this. I don't know if this is mentioned in the Excalibur II guide on gamefaqs, but I bet that the Grand Dragon trick in disc 1 would save loads of time throughout the entire game. What you do is you before you go to Gizmaluke's Grotto, have Quina eat a Mandragora (have to deal about 500 damage first) in the forest near Chocobo Forest so that he/she learns Limit Glove. Keep going as normal until you free the moogle inside the giant bell in the Grotto. Once you've done this get into a battle and kill Quina. Go talk to the moogles and save your game (with Quina still dead). Next use a phoenix down so that Quina's health is 1. If it's not 1 then reset the game and try again. Once you have it at 1, save again and go up the vine to go outside. Once outside of the forested area, you can only get into battles with Grand Dragons. What you do is have Quina use Limit Glove, then Eat the dragon. If Quina gets killed before using Limit Glove, you can use a phoenix down to try to get his/her health back to 1 but I just reset the game if that happens. The dragon gives about 35,000 experience so that's about 8800 per character if they all live. I personally recommend saving after killing each one.

I don't even have icons shown, just a background. Wish Windows 7's ui was easily modifiable, and not through a third party program... Steam ui for an OS would be lovely.

Everythings in the start button thing. I do have icons laying around on there when even I'm working on something though, like downloaded a movie that I gotta reformat or whatever it's called, junk like that.

I prefer toolbars on the Taskbar which help keep the desktop clean except for the apps I'm running.

I want a desktop of an animated angler fish, just floating there, and all the icons would show up as liver spots on its body. It could go to sleep there and move it's little pointy pin teef ever so gently whenever tiny sea debris would glide near it's hideous monserty monster face. Deleted things would just fall on the bottom waiting to be eaten by either a crab crab or maybe even a worm worm. Someone do for me

I have boxes that separate my programs by genre (and game sub-genres). If I double-click the screen with the right button all icons fade. Best of both worlds :).

You gotta have a balance of both. I personally have long since turned desktop icons off. My desktop has app button things on it and some information on it, like the news and weather.

I have my usual icons on the right on 1 row and a half. In the bottom right corner I have my design programs and on the right some work files and folders. It's not exactly cluttered but not clean either. However I'd lose a lot of time if I had to browse for my resources around. However I'll have a partition dedicated towards my work on my college PC and a tip-top clean desktop.

What's funny is I'm currently playing ff9 and that trick would've been very useful an hour or two ago in game. Also it was irking me what all those "new text doc" were. PS. for the love of god please rename the witcher 2 shortcut to "WITCHER 2" The start witcher 2 just makes me cry for some reason.

The desktop is my temporary file location. All saved images, text documents, basically everything new is dumped to my desktop then eventually moved to the proper location. It was made to hold files for easy access, and that's what I use it for.

I generally keep it simplish, with just some shortcuts to folders on my HDD.

Though, I used to keep my torrents on the desktop until I realized I shouldn't due that, for severe lack of space on my OS SSD.

I've still got one file seeding on there that I want to keep seeding for a while.

What anime is that wallpaper from?

To Aru Majutsu No Index and/or To Aru Kagaku No Railgun.

Both are good, I guess, but not fantastic.

Index is a shounen adventure series, and Railgun is a spin-off that is basically a more moe and SOL version of Index.

But I really like them for some reason.

edit: probably just that most of the characters are good, and the art direction appeals to me.

But stay away from it if you know anything about physics or Christianity, because the writers don't, but pretend they do.
