I'm hanging out with my friend. Its abouteleven at night. Her cousin calls her, tells her he's coming to her house to talk to her grandparents about his up coming fight. He's an MMA fighter. So we go to the convenient store to wait for him. While we're there she goes in, when she comes out she sees some friends of hers, they sit and talk for a couple minutes. Then when her cousin arrives she leaves with him.

Okay. So I leave. On my way home I get pulled over. The cops says I crossed the white line a few time. My Jeep pulls slightly to the left and I was trying to get my CD player to work. He asks me for my lisence, I forgot my wallet at home, and my insurance. I have four expired insurance papers in there and I can't find my current one. I eventually find it. He makes me get out. He talks to me. Asks me if I had been drinking and what not, asks me where I'm going, where I'm coming from, asks me what my friend and her friend were talking about; I'm nervous, the cops in this town have a bad reputation.

He asks to search me. I let him. He asks if I have anything in my Jeep and tells me he had a dog in his car. I didn't have anything. So I let him search that. Comes back and asks me the last time I smoked pot. I told him the truth, over a month before. Then he asks me when I last had it in my car. About the same time. He said he could smell it. Okay. I don't see how thats possible. It reaks of cigarettes and cologne, and the floor board is covered in dirt in mud. I hear something on his radio, he responds "He's okay," then continues talking to me. He lets me go.

I talk to my friend later and found out they pulled them over and her friends. Searched all of them. I'm pretty sure they were looking to get a drug bust.

Sorry about the text wall by the way.

Edit:

BY THE WAY I FIND THIS HUMOROUS.

Convenience stores are a great meeting spot for teenagers and people living with their parents to get some drugs. You've got your munchies and blunts right there.

Loitering is wrong (here in the US) But that does not really match up with your post. Cops can pull you over with reasonable cause. Your driving (crossing the lines) gave him probable cause

If you hadn't all been hanging out there....they wouldn't have searched you. Every area has their problem spots and cops will check you out if you're there....

No..but as I stated above...certain areas put cops on the alert. So they will find cause to stop you......

I would assume because you can buy cigarrettes and alcohol there.

Our "problem" area is actually the movie theater here. Friday nights there's usually at least a half dozen cops just standing outside. I showed up for a movie 45 minutes early and stood outside talking to my friend while waiting (I'm 24 mind you, not 17), and the cops basically berated us for "loitering," which is incredibly stupid if you're WAITING FOR YOUR MOVIE TO START.

Okay, so let me get this straight: You were swerving because you weren't paying attention to the road in the middle of the night, you were driving without a license, and your car smells like marijuana. Clearly the cop was somehow at fault.

No. My car smells like cigarettes and cologne. I wasn't "swervring", my car pulls to one side, I pushed a few buttons on my CD player. Thats for twisting it out of contex and ignoring facts. And he said he found "crumbs". I never had it out of the bag and I've only had it in my glovebox, which is filled with papers, a condom, and CDs.

Doesn't matter. Once the cop noticed you hanging at the convenience store...he only needed to see you cross the line once. It's common. Just be glad you didn't get a ticket for not having your license or something.

Yet, you admitted to having pot in your car, and the cop said he could smell pot. "My car pulls to one side." As in, your car swerved to one side. You can't press a few buttons on a CD player without going over the lines? :| I never said anything about the crumbs. . . Finally, you still drove without a license, which is, in a very polite word, irresponsible. You would have gone to jail in my state.

To be fair...I did cross a line slightly playing with my CD player once. As for driving without a license....since the cop didn't know that it isn't why he was stopped. Jail for that? It's a ticket here. Do you live in Texas?

Did you give them business? If not, you were loitering. Also, if you just wait around after your business is done, that is also loitering. The law is meant to curb drug transactions, propositioning a hooker, and stop bums from hanging around -otherwise, someone could buy a 10 cent piece of gum and stay around all day

I forgot ot hit enter. Its was a completely different thought. I was adding to what I said earlier. And no. Not with my CD player. Its messed up. It doesn't light up so you have to kind of feel for things.

You swerve over the line unintentionaly at night. You do it once and he continues following you. You do it again and then a third time, Ok maybe you are drunk. You get pulled over and cop talks to you and doesn't smell alcoholic beverage on your breath and decides to pull you out of the car to see how steady you are on your feet. You have balance and he may now be thinking that you could possibly be high. Asks when the last time you smoked pot and if you've ever had it in the car. Did he smell pot? Maybe, that stench can hang around forever. He searches the car and finds nothing. You have no proof of insurance and are not carrying a license. He had every reason to pull you over and he went through his steps to see if you were not driving dui or under the influence of drugs and then doesn'twrite you for not having proof of insurance and no license in hand and he is still the bad guy? Lets say you were drunk or high, he may have saved your life or someone elses if you had gotten into an accident. It's called doing a job and it may not seem normal and may seem harrassing but there is more going on and a prosess cops go through to get the truth because believe it or not, people lie more than they tell the truth. Because of this everyone suffers. No reason to think you were victimized, you just had a cop do his job and do it well. You should be thankful. Also, convenience stores are huge hangouts for drug dealing and for minors trying to buy alcohol and tobacco. Again, it's about a cop knowing his beat and investigating possible suspicious activity.

1 more thing, he let you go. You obviously were truthful and cooperative and that obviously didn't go unnoticedas you would be going home with 2 tickets and walking for not having a license in hand.

I know for a fact it was twice. If even that. It wasn't in a short amount of time either, I was half way home. When he got there he was set on searching me for drugs. When did I say he made you walk the line? He can see if you are steady or not on your feet once you get out of the vehicle and stand on your feet. Ok, I missed the insurance thing. And you say you are certain that you crossed the line twice even though you were fussing with the cd player. So you were counting the amount of times you swerved while messing with a cd player? And he was hell bent on searching for drugs because you were probably leaving a known drug area. That is why all the cars got searched. It's not that hard to figure out. Forget the loitering crap, that just helps build his probably cause.

[QUOTE="sexy-hippo"] Like I said. She bought a drink. When she came out she talked with her friends and then her cousin showed up. Two minute conversation tops.sexy-hippo

YOU were loitering if YOU did not buy anything.
-a bunch of you show up, someone buys a drink, someone else arrives, you all leave...could be seen as suspicious

Also, the cops had probable cause to pull you over b/c of your driving.
The cop was VERY lenient with you.

In all honesty, your thread should have been just how thankful you are to have not received a ticket

You keep leaving out the guys getting gas.

You don't really seem to listen to what I say

1. YOU did not buy anything. YOU were loitering
2. a bunch of kids waiting around after their business is done is loitering...those same kids waiting for someone else to arrive and then leaving is suspicious
(for the reasons I named behind loitering laws)
3. Your driving gave the cop probable cause to pull you over...THAT IS YOUR FAULT
4. You did not have your license...that = a ticket at the very minimum
5. The cop was nice to you...you should be grateful

Since when has showing up, while getting gas, talk to someone, then leaving loitering? That happens to me all the time. I never get stopped and searched. And I've been in some pretty bad places when this happened.

Again, it's about a cop knowing his beat and investigating possible suspicious activity.

drufeous

Um. He never made me walk a line. I had insurance. I had problems finding it. I said that. And he said I went over the line a couple times. I know it wasn't three times. I know for a fact it was twice. If even that. It wasn't in a short amount of time either, I was half way home. When he got there he was set on searching me for drugs. Same with the other two cars involved.

I missed a doesn't. And usually when a copt tells you to step out and smells alcohol on your breath they ask you to walk a line. I only messed with my radio once. And when I looked up I was still in my lane. Crossing the line a little bit once isn't probable cause, so I assume it was twice.

I highly doubt this had anything to do with the convenience store. I think it had more to do with the fact that you looked like you were intoxicated while driving because you were swerving.

You were driving without a license, and the cop let you go. Do you not understand that driving without a license is ILLEGAL? You have NOTHING to complain about. You should have gotten on your knees and thanked the cop.

1. Yes, I am very aware of cops (especially at 2 am). They are easy to spot. 2. What is there to complain about -you drove like crap (should have got a ticket for that) -you did not have your license (should have got a ticket for that) But the cop was nice and you are still *****ing and complaining You did wrong, you did not get punished, and you are mad...seriously man :?

This is also in an area with bad cops who cause trouble for kids for no reason. I'm not the only one who's been accused of having marijuana in my car when I didn't. The chief of police there is the same guy who went out of his district to bust my dad and his friends at the lake. The cops of this town have a bad reputation. And I've watched Cops alot. They usually ask them to get out and immediately walk a line. They will nail you if you're going 56 downhill.

Convenience stores are a great meeting spot for teenagers and people living with their parents to get some drugs. You've got your munchies and blunts right there. wstfld

I'm starting to get mad because you keep saying I'm mad. I'm not mad at the cops. I find this situation a bit comical. Cops aren't easy too spot when you have windows are dark as mine, they are barely legal. I didn't drive like crap. You are over exagerating that. I know I didn't have weed crumbs in my car because that would involve me having weed out in my car, which has never happened.

Kid I know for a fact have never even touched the stuff have been accused of it. I'm saying I'm being accused of the crumbs. I've had weed in my car once, in a bag, in the glove box. Not the floorboards, which is where he sound he found it. I found alot of cigarette ash. And Its this town in particular. The town I go to school in, most are nice, I got pulled over there for speeding, ony got a warning and he showed me around his car. And later the same night as the before mentioned incidentI was at a park with a friend, cop pulls up, tells us about the curfew, but then adds that he hasn't seen anything wrong and lets us stay. He even waved when he came by and we were leaving. The cops in the other town busted my same friend for having cigarettes at lunch. She wasn't even at the school and she's nineteen.

I have the legal limit tint as well. It is still easy for me to spot cops
You admitted that you deserved a ticket (license)...so what exactly is the issue here.

The cop pulled you over with cause.
He may have been looking for drug users...guess what, he found one (you admitted it)...and he let you go
The title of this thread should have been, 'I just encountered the nicest. most understanding cop ever'

The cops are trying to do their job.
They have to act within the rules...so they look for cause (your bad driving) when they have suspicion (kids gathering at a place where not so legit things happen)
You gave him the cause to act on his suspicion...you allowed him to do his job.

He decided to cut you a break...one for which you do not appear to be grateful for

sometimes i think cops do things unnecessarily. me and my friend were swimming at her neighborhood pool one night, it was after pool hours so really, we weren't supposed to be there. but all we were doing was swimming, weren't vandalizing or smoking pot or anything. then a police car pulls up, we get out and start drying off before the cop comes to the gate. i know that technically we were in the wrong because we weren't supposed to be there, but then another cop car pulls up. i didn't really see the point of the second cop car..

He found a smell and "crumbs". I wouldn't exactly call that having drugs. I don't carry much at all when I carry it with me. And every time but twice I kept it in my pocket, and I was in someone elses car. Him saying he could scrape up enough to charge me for I don't agree with. I'm bitter about him saying that. Maybe my glove box does smell faintly like weed, but I know I don't have weed in my mud covered floorboards. My band practices at my friends house, it gets really muddy when it rains.
