Well to be fair, you can't exactly become a Christian just by saying "oh yeah Jesus you're a pretty cool guy, you died for my sins and don't afraid of anything, can i go to heaven plz?"
Obviously, you have to wholeheartedly mean it...I don't think you can play your God as a fool.
Well, yes, but that's the thing: the whole metaphor of being "born again" is to signify that you sincerely intend to turn your life around and live your life with love in your heart. If Jeffrey Dahmer had actually converted in jail, then he would not be the person who committed the grisly murders anymore, which is the whole point. Becoming born again, so to speak, is not just some magic chant that acts like a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Also, I'm not sure how it works with the Islamic faith, but in Christianity Jesus preached to others not to be judgemental. So a person telling someone else that they're going to hell is only hurting themselves in my eyes.

Everyone wants justice, except that true justice does not really exist. Causing a person to suffer simply for the sake of making them suffer does nothing to undo what they might have done. Recognizing this is the first step towards finally being able to forgive others for what they've done and to put oneself at peace.

Forgiving is a good thing, but is forgiving a way of justice? (Just curious )Well I would never tell you that you are going to hell since in my religion I'm not supposed to judge other people. That's God's job. My job is to worship god and have a relationship with him.
If you truly don't believe in one of the established churches that does not mean you don't have any religion.
You have your personal philosphy:wink:
if that means you believe in an afterlife or reincarnation (like some in Hollywood) then you DO have a religion.
it just does not agree with the person you mention in your OP.
I will not mention the church I belong to but I will mention my belief:
All religions have part of the truth and none of the have all of the truth.
and furthermore I also believe that:
The louder they proclaim they the "one answer" with THE TRUTH(in capital letters) the farther away they are from being able to offer any concrete assistance.8)

Amen to that. For some reason a lot of people seem to forget this.
You don't need to believe in hell if hell believes in you. Seriously though, I don't think you necessarily need to be a member of a specific religion to go to heaven. If you honestly are not convinced that a religion is right but try to lead your life morally I believe you'll be ok. But what do I know, I'm not the gate keeper.
Exactly if It belives in you then don't worry You won't go to hell TC
Hell will come to YOU
You don't need to believe in hell if hell believes in you..

Punishing/Killing a killer does not undo the deed.
Forgiving does not undo the deed.
Your God Forgiving you does not undo the deed.
Either way the deed is done, nothing can bring back a victim.
I ust think that its extremely unreasonable to send a belever with a muky past into heaven and a good non-believer to hell.
In any case, I'm pretty sure you will see a bunch of "Christians" in hell...I'm pretty sure that your God isn't fond of hypocrites judging each other based on human flaws.

Yup. As the title reads. At class today, one of my [former] friends asks me if I celebrated the Muslim holiday yesterday. Well seeing how as I was an agnostic for the past couple of months because i saw too many contradictions in religion (sorry for people that took offense to this) i told her "No, I dont see the point in religion anymore". She proceeds to tell me "Wow,You're going to hell". How am i going to hell, when i dont believe in it? DroidPhysX
There is no hell and your friend is a moron. Have a drink and play Black Ops in comfort.
Forgiving is a good thing, but is forgiving a way of justice? (Just curious )Darthkaiser
No. Forgiveness is, ultimately, the acceptance that "justice", as most humans understand the term, does not exist. It's little wonder why so many people find it so hard to stomach.

Correct - neither undoes the deed; however, only one of them can remove the mental and spiritual poison that is a grudge and a desire for revenge.
Who said anything about sending a good non-believer to hell?

My Divine practice is what I like to call The method of Hell-A-gangsta. We like tocruisearound in a jalopywith a Charleston chew under our jackets and pretend we are strapped. We roll up to people and say "Give us all yo scratch or else we'll giveyou therat-a-tat-tat. We like to peel away in a brisk 30 under the cover of a huge smoke screen, because it's a GEO.

The human nature....It's just seems that some people actually want their religions to look bad.
I can't wait until someone finds a missing page from the front of Bible, the one that says "All events and persons depicted here are purely coincidental and are not meant to be taken seriously or used for reference".

Not really. The whole idea of Pascal's wager is that one should believe in God "just in case" because one will go to heaven if one does.
even the religious go to hell.
To Christians, non-Christians go to hell
To Muslims, non-Muslims go to hell
To Jews...well, Jews dont believe in hell last time I checked. which is refreshing, eternal damnation is too tough a punishment for even the w orst offenders (yes, even Hitler Stalin, Pol Pot, etc), let alone someone who doesnt subscribe to a religion.
