I don't know what advice to give here. A guy asked me for my number once, in the morning on a train ride to school. First he talked to me and I just thought it was a spontaneous conversation between strangers, happens all the time. Then he asked for it... and I have to admit, I was VERY shocked but I didn't get upset. My answer was just "Sorry, but I'm straight" and his answer was "oh"... *awkward silence*... then I continued with "so what are you studying" the conversation continued like nothing had happened.

Fine, it wasn't the smoothest most comfortable conversation in my life but IF I had been gay then that would have been a good way to get my number.

Anyways...I guess just ask how many girlfriend's he's had before. If he says none then he's probably gay and if he says one or more then ask if he's dated guys before. I mean, if you ask him out and he says no, you are going to feel awkward and you won't see him in the same way that you do now and he won't see you in the same way that he see's you right now(if he isn't attracted to you).
