Well it's the nature of God and religion in general to be non-falsifiable. Things like omnipitence, faith and the supernatural aspect of God simply cannot be accounted for by science and rationalty. Religion still offers very valuable guidance and comfort to countless people so it's not at all surprising that many people still believe in God.

It's impossible for science to prove there is no God. I'm sure people have their reasons as to why they believe what they do.

They want life to have meaning and they want "evil doers" to suffer in the afterlife as if everything is fair.

And thus they prefer to live and believe in a lie...this is beyond my comprehension.

It's a lie to you, but not to them..to them it is complete truth and as such, they believe it.
Live and let live. Happiness is rare and if believing in such things makes them happy, then they are fully entitled to it.

I don't see why so many people around here feel the need to disprove it. And even when they try, there is no way as Marisa points out.

Science hasn't proved the inexistence of any God.

I believe in God beause I want to. I want to believe in God because I feel like there is one. Not a more simpler answer than that.

I don't quite know what you're getting at but while there is nothing wrong with believing in God or not, it is to have someone impose their beliefs on others. And on being an optimist - you haven't met me.

I never said there's anything wrong with what they believe. I just wish I had some sense of meaning. That's all. I consider the belief of a greater good/reason of living pretty optimistic. That's not an insult to religion or anything. I just wish I had that feeling. Which I don't.

Your question is understandable, but you must see that God can never be disproven, no matter how many scientific facts arise. The reason for this is because people's belief in God run on love and faith. Love and faith is a human emotion, therefore, it is impossible to disprove because when it comes to emotions, there is no true or false.

Personally, I am Agnostic, but I would prefer that someone believe in God if that keeps their happiness. I would rather see someone happy and successful in life because of it, rather than watching them break and fall apart as a whole. The belief in something you love (regardless of what it is) may lead to a love-filled life and in turn, bring others around you happiness.

It is better to believe in something, rather than nothing at all...that's my take on it anyway.

I never said I'm 100% in belief either :P I can only say Im Catholic because that's what my parents are - but I haven't been to church in years, would not consider myself particualrly religious, or apply religion to my every day actions. But if someone asks me I'll just say Catholic - I just don't care to find a category that I fit in really.

Have you ever thought of Why you think Science has proved Religion wrong? Maybe because you are actually taught about it and not the other? It also answers your recent comment about kids believing god because they told so.

Religion can easily disprove Science as Science can disprove Religion. BTW I dont have a religion but I dont waste time trying to prove it right or wrong as it will gain me nothing but hate.

Well, I can't speak for those people but I must say that I do agree, a lot of people believe it because they've been told to do so. When I have children, I'm going to teach them about many different religions and types of beliefs, then once they are knowledgeable, they will one day choose for themselves.

[QUOTE="Luminouslight"]Its easy to argue that god hasn't been disproven. Just because blibical facts are being disproven doesn't mean much. Who wrote the bible? Men... jointed

If the bible isn't true, then why follow it? Christians cherry pick things in the bible that sounds good, and ignore the rest...

You don't think Science is picked through? Its a bunch of Scientific Theories and Scientist study around the selected few that makes sense to them.

Ehm, what? No it's not....

A great example is the extinction of dinosaurs and the big bang theory. Im not saying any of that is wrong, In fact I would side with the Scientific ideas over religion but it is picked and selected then studied upon.

LMFAO

Oh dude, you kill me. God is supernaturaly, science can only prove things that are 1) in the natural 2) not too complex for our understanding. Just think about it;)

Dude, you treat "science" like it's some sort of authority. Science is the revealed truth through the eyes of men, thus it is subject to change at any time. Science has been changing all throughout history, primarily because humans have more pride than they do brain power. So next time you say "science", think "current human perception".

Pretty much. You can't disprove what belongs in a different reality, or whatever it would be. Even if we figured out we were created by something within our universe. That in no ways disproves what occurs in another space, or something like that. Because in the end, the supernatural could easily influenced those events. It is IMPOSSIBLE to disprove. The dead are the only ones who truly know. And even then....

The bad mostly fills the proven wrong theories. People at one point studied upon the world being flat.

EDIT: wemhim the virtual boy was bad science. LOL

The only difference between then and now is that now we can directly prove many of our theories, and make them close to rock solid. Religions, on the other hand, can't prove anything at all.

Science changes, yes, because we do not know the full state of the universe. Therefore, our theories must be provisional. Because science is based on empiricism, peer-review, and improvement, there is no need to devalue it so much.

You can't compare the close-to non-existent science from the middle ages to the science of today.Science was still in it's cradle at that point...

But what I meant about the Earth is flat theory is that one thing can drastically change many or the outcome. For today Global Warming can be an issue of non exsistence( I believe global warming is real) but one day a new study could prove it right or wrong.
