I doubt it considering the stress he was under. I find your last comment most interesting. It's okay to bash other religions...and countries but in this one instance disrespect is wrong.

In the end it is a over-reaction in just about any other situation, EXCEPT This one.. The majority of the middle east already hates the United States, we have incidents like Abu Gharib.. The last thing we need is something like this happening.. Why? Because when we have snipers using the Koran as target practice and we have some collateral damage that was by accident, many will be denouncing the United States as enemies towards Islam.. its just more fuel to the fire.

Who cares in the end its just another form of freedom of speech.. The reason why they did what they did was cause of damage control.. Of all the huge screw ups of the war they the US government does not want to appear to the middle east as committing war on Islam, I guess most of you guys don't understand the art of DIPLOMACY....

While I normally endorse actively showing your contempt for organised religion (yeah I'm like that, but no matter how much I don't like your religion I won't bother telling you that in real life, nor will I ever attempt to take it from you...), the man should have used his goddam brain before doing something as stupid as that.

I think the US military was justified in its actions. Freedom of speech has never really been on a military agenda to be honest, and America's military takes that to quite a hardline approach...

Meh. They don't like us anyway. This incident isn't the reason and nothing we do will change that. And as we have the whole freedom of speech issue.....he had a right. Will those that follow Islam like it? No. But that is how freedom of speech works and I'm not for curtailing it to cater to someone who may get offended. Any given person can get offended any given day over any given statement.

To get a faint idea of how offended Muslims would be by this, picture the reaction of Christians if a man took a Cross and a picture of Jesus outside, took a massive **** on both of them, burned them, and taped it.

The Koran is the most important thing in the universe to Muslims. Shooting at one in a Muslim country is stupid and reckless beyond human comprehension.

Because it actually takes intelligence to realize why they did that.. If you didn't notice the United States is widely hated through out the middle east now.. Through numerous mistakes.. The only way we are going to make it better is have an iron grip on such things and not allow our soldiers/forces/the US to appear to be against Islam as a religion when we ARE TRYING TO BUILD A NATION.. I would think you guys would understand this.

Yet you use a completely false comparison, and compared how one can treat the bible here too.. You can do the same to the Koran here, and no one will stop you.. The point of the matter is Iraq is a powder keg and the last thing we need is dumbasses like that setting it off in a delicate situation.

How am I using false comparison? I know why the soldier is getting disciplined thats a no brainer because of the situation, but what I'm saying is in general. You have people who have made references to allah and then the whole damn world is up in arms likes it is the end of the world. Yet you have people who make fun of christrianity and I don't see the whole world going crazy asking for whoever made fun of them to be killed. Oh ya and maybe if there weren't so many dumbasses over there that thought it was cool to set the american flag on fire and jump up and down for joy when over 2000 people died on 9-11 but thats ok though, that wasn't a delicate situation. :roll:

Of course completely understandable, but what I'm saying is in general. I remember about a year ago a journalist in Europe drew a so called picture of allah and the whole world was up in anger, and this and that.
