It's nowhere near as educated.B05T0Nactually if you compare Alabama's average ACT score with the rest of the nation, it's right on average.

And here we have a perfect example. Thank you, sir.
Mega burn.

Saying you're right does not make you right. The only parts of the south that are consistently less educated are the border areas, because of the influx of illegal aliens. If you had any experience with people in the heartland (the average American), you wouldn't be so condescending. The north is far from enlightened.
When my relatives come up from the south (Georgia). I prefer that my cousin does not talk. Becuase everytime he does it seems that nothing but BS spews forth from his mouth. That and he is really into his religion so about 80% of what he says is based on it.
Cousin from Georgia "Georgia is sooo much better'n Or-ee-gon."
Me "It's pronounced Or a gun you dimwit and no Georgia is not better because God hates Georgia"
Cousin "How do ya figure that?"
Me "He keeps throwing hurricanes at it."
Cousin *angrily walks away*

Agreed. Many people in the northeast have false perceptions about the south and are generally ignorant to the fact that it's just as industrialized for the most part, and just as educated.Rhythmic_
I'm sure there are loads of docks, immigrants, factories and general industrialization in Alabama. Not to mention the power of the Alabama stock exchange.

A. Your cousin does not represent the majority of the south.
B. If you think hurricanes hitting Georgia is somehow a statement about the absence of God or the falsehood of religion, that shows a vast lack of education on your part regarding Christianity. Just because your cousin doesn't know how to defend his beliefs doesn't mean they are unfounded.
I'd also like to point out that Geogia is located above Florida and receives very little damage from hurricanes ever. Florida, Texas, and recently Louisiana are the main recipients, though Alabama and Mississippi have had some bad ones also.
It's hard to be condescending when I dont live in the area in discussion. I actually do have experience with people from the heartland, and while they're very nice people, theyre simply not as intelligent. B05T0NI've lived in both areas, and worked extensively in both areas in the IT/Telecommunications field. I found far more intellectual stupidity and down-right absent-mindedness in the north than I do down here. I always wrote it off to everyone living on top of each other. In fact, the area I live in now is filled with PhD's and post-docs. Oak Ridge National Laboratory is just down the road, as is the Y-12 National Security Complex. (K-25 and X-10 were in operation until the 90's). This is probably the most intelligent town I've lived in.

true, and they're opening a steel mill right outside my town so illegal immigrants are here more than ever. when my roof was done after Katrina, only one of them knew english. we have docks too because we're on the gulf. but i dunno about factories. the only one i know of right now is the hyndai plant up near montgomery[QUOTE="B05T0N"]It's hard to be condescending when I dont live in the area in discussion. Funny considering New England is the most educated part of the U.S. I'm sure they were messing around, though.B05T0NFunny, doesn't seem to be the case.
really now.....interesting, that shouldn't be in their genes
(if this looks funny, I haven't read the first message sorry)
I'm from new england and, to a degree, I have seen what you're talking about. There's a general level of arrogance suggesting that we know better than everyone else... of course, I have met a lot of very smart people in this area who probably contribute to that perception, and I do often think they're right. :D
Anyway, once I got out in the world and met some friendly southerners, I realized I might've had some preconceptions. And as a side note, I think the southern accent can be adorable on the right girl.
Seriously though, I admit that we sometimes stereotype people from the south. Still, and this is just a guess, but don't you guys stereotype us northerners too? :P
pff...you guys will miss us once we join the UK in the reconquering of the ex-colonial states xP! the plan has been in the works for quite awhile now...we are slowly funneling more and more british people into New England...You southerners won't even see it coming
**evil laugh**
