I always wonder what the hell is going on in North Korean officials' heads. How do they come up with this stuff? But anyways, not very surprising. I wonder why South Korea even tries.Mochyc
Actually, the US is not very innocent...i happen to think that the North korean officials are somewhat right. It may not be a plan from the US to weaken their country, but it probably would.
This. Er...I mean, I agree 100% with what Gabu just said. :DQuite literally every single person in North Korea except Kim Jong-Il and his buddies would benefit from the unification of South and North Korea... sadly, Kim Jong-Il and his buddies are the only ones with any say.

Oh...Damn. So close.
Wow so North Korea are the only ones to blame... I am sure South Korea has its skeletonsBanjo_KongfooieI'm sure they do, but appearance goes a long way with the public. Saying it's going to be used as a tool for invasion sounds a little... out there.

US has a history of doing stuff like this exactly (look up proxy wars)... I think this is not just North Korea's fault but then again I also think War mongering is wrong

South Korea plans to tax ITS OWN citizens for around a Trillion dollars over decades to pay for unification costs. I dont see how North Korea a country with like 23 billion GDP would not benefit from getting infrastructure, food, education, health care (or atleast the supplies as they have lots of doctors but no supplies). While it's not very suprising that the idea was cast aside by North Korea, their reasoning seems a bit off... - SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea on Tuesday rejected a new unification proposal from South Korea, calling it a "ridiculous" plan aimed at weakening the North in preparation for a U.S.-assisted invasion. On Sunday, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak proposed a three-stage unification process -- peace and denuclearization, economic integration, and an eventual "community of the Korean nation." Lee also proposed a special tax to finance the costs of unification. North Korea criticized the proposal for making nuclear disarmament in the North a precondition for unification. "This is nothing but ridiculous rhetoric to force (North Korea) to disarm itself and realize the ambition for invading (North Korea) together with the U.S.," the North's Committee for Peaceful Reunification said in a statement. - http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/World/20100817/koreas-tension-100817/ Does anyone really think that South Korea and the US are truly capable of something so heinous? Baconbits2004
Well considerig that less than a decade ago the US invaded a sovereign nation unprovoked and under false pretenses I don't think it's an entirely outlandish idea.

The whole thing about north korea is that it wants military might. With a more unstable government it would lose some in the process. Also kim jon ill (idk how to spell it) doesnt care about food, education, or healthcare much.....hes a crazy dude with cancer or w/e.
[QUOTE="T_REX305"]To make North look bad It really doesn't need any help.why did south Korea tried this?

The only way that Korean Reunification will happen at this point is if the South Korean Government agrees to dissolve itself, and hand over its power to the North Korean Government. People are fooling themselves if they think that Kim Jong Il (or whatever goverment officials/generals that are pulling the strings) will give up any amount of power in order to reunify the two countries.ProudLarry
I think Kim doing something stupid, and international forces retaliating/intervening and squashing the North like a bug are much more likely.
Just saying.

How have the people of North and South Korea not just taken out Mr. Kim already?
jubino
The people in the North are brainwashed. Plus, if anyone speaks out against Jong-il's "greatness", or if a person complains about the government or the poor quality of their life, that person and their family will be tortured and killed.
WTF. Why the hell would they even need nukes if Korea was reunited? They wouldn't even need a military. Nobody wants to invade Korea. Kim makes no sense.
One Korea would be a great idea, but you have two ideologies that are in opposition.
Reunification would greatly benefit the NKorean people...their standard of living would increase.
You know what we need? Satellites with sniper rifles. No need to nuke harmless civilians, just send a single bullet into the head of every evil leader in the place. Preferably incendiary bullets.Quite literally every single person in North Korea except Kim Jong-Il and his buddies would benefit from the unification of South and North Korea... sadly, Kim Jong-Il and his buddies are the only ones with any say.

Careful though. It could also be possible that a reunification too quickly can overextend governmental and economic capacities of the two countries and lead to economic collapse and instability. Assuming the most likely possibility of reunification under a Seoul government, they would have to accommodate over 20 million new people, who have been living in a world completely different than almost anywhere else on earth. As a case example, the West and East Germany reunification alone was a challenging endeavor, and even to this day, large differences remain in the former two separate countries. The differences in North and South Korea are infinitely greater and they will likely only increase even further over time. As much of an idea it may be, it may very well be too late for a smooth or even manageable reunification. And I'm sure the players on both sides are well aware of that.
Well, the CEO *did* turn the deal down, even though it could very well have benefited the share holders. :(That heading sounds like something The Onion would run, as if they were two major corporations.
